AH3 Crash to white screen
« on: October 01, 2016, 01:58:55 PM »
Hello I have tried AH3 for the first time today I am running the DX11 version and while flying in a arena called something like general mayhem lol the thing was running smooth with most settings very high or maxed out my lowest frames were about 45 or so but just in the open it was running at around 75 FPS no micro stutters smooth as butter even with explosions ect.
Twice now I have had the game stop to a white screen no sound about a half hour in, ctl-alt-del to get out. Swapped power supply to another Corsair 850 watt and monitored temps loads etc, the system was loafing along when it crashed. Here is what I could gather of course no bluescreen or mini dumps for this.

Event viewer:

It looks like your computer should handle the game fine. There may be a bug in the DX11 version of the game, you could try running the DX9 version and see if you still get the crash.

Navigate to C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III and doubleclick (or create a desktop icon for) the aceshigh9.exe file. This will start the game in the DX9 version.

Well I've been using DX 9 version since I posted this and it hasn't crashed. I'm getting an average frame rate of 75 and as low as 57 with tons of stuff going on and sits at refresh rate of 95 when in tower etc.. So maybe it's only DX 11 version I'm running a i5 6600k at 4.6 Ghz and a EVGA GTX 960 SSC wth 4 GB ram and 16 GB on the system. Even maxed out with prime 95 or furmark I don't exceed mid 60's I'm using a cooling block with external rad I think this issue is unique for me I run a lot of games and sims some take a huge amount of GPU grunt and  some thrive on pure CPU speed like DCS World but this is the first time for this system to see the white screen and lockup.

If you crash the DX11 version try to get the error report on the crash message. Usually the crash message is visible when you start task manager.

I've encountered the same issue while using the DX11 and DX9 versions. I have yet to find a solution. I will be checking for an error report or something significant the next time it happens. :headscratch:

It appears that some folks are having an issue of white screen on start but this is obviously somewhat different but still may be related they seemed to be getting a video issue but Mine goes white and sound goes away I saw no error screen after ctl-alt-del just chose log off. I'll try looking at process exp next time.

Sometimes the crash message is behind the task manager window.

I believe the AH crash message will point to the problem.

Hi Arronr,

Looking at your dxdiag I noticed that you're using the Nvidia vid card onboard sound chip over HDMI to your monitor speakers, correct?

If so you might want to check to make sure that you have the better drivers for this chip and all is installed clean.
I don't know how well these vid card sound chips can handle sound processed by FMOD Studio.
You might try going into AHIII Game Sounds, advanced section and lower the sound output levels of the game sounds then try running the Dx11 version again to see if this makes a difference. You might also check in the Nvidia sound control to see if the bit rate is within range of the chip's ability to handle it as well. All games do this somewhat different as well.

Dx9 and Dx11 handle sound a little bit different from my understanding.

As for the rest I see all is good.

Your sound chip getting overloaded could be the issue...........

Hope this helps you out.

Intresting info there I hadn't given much thought to the fact that the sound is indeed being handled by the 960 gfx card via HDMI I'm going to toss that into my brain cavity and let it rattle around a bit I love it (trouble shooting when I'm not on a dead line) I'm looking into all the above will report my findings.

P.S. the sound/hdmi driver are packaged with the video driver from Nvidia It can be downloaded separately and I'll check to see what the chip mfg driver availability is.

Edit:

Just for grins I fired up the dx11 again and was flying just fine shooting and killing a little and I went to drop gear when it froze on the image for a second then went to white screen with this message without having to ctl-alt-del to see it but I still had to close it .
It doesn't look of much use to me also of note is the fact there was no reference to the event in event viewer?

I guess this got moved to the Bug section. I posted where I did because I thought it might be something I was doing wrong on my end and not a bug. Well I like the game in DX 11 mode but I'll have to be happy with DX 9 for now. My frame rates in DX 11 are sitting around 70 in average areas with most settings maxed out dropping to no less then 60 (lots of other players and explosions flying very low) and as high as the refresh rate 95hz in most unpopulated areas and tower.
