Howdy Jester. Welcome, and glad you are apart of the community. Ive been here for 11 years. When I first started, I didn't know how to type for a week. I thought I'd be amazing after playing Combat Flight Sim. Well, it turns out I was pretty much in the same position you are haha. This game is hard and is so unforgiving. I've had many nights of fun, anger, and intensity. It's one of the best "survival of the fittest" games out there. Through the years, I've learned so much about flying, air combat (in video games), ACM, Situational awareness, and understanding the fight.
Let me give you a few tips to help you learn to be better:
1. Work on your 1v1 skills with a Trainor. It will critically help you become better in the MA. Help you become better at timing, E management, and stick feeling.
2. Ask to hop in someone's plane who is really good in the MA. Watch how they fly, utilize E management, how they set up shots, and how they get away from danger. You can fly with me in my plane, (violator), if we see each other on, and I'll show you how I fly.
3. Don't be afraid to be aggressive. You don't have to fly timid and at 30K to get kills. Learn how to get in and get out. Learn when to keep your speed, when to dive, how to dive (spiral dive) and be patient for the right attack. This will help you become more comfortable in your flying, and you will get more kills.
4. Learn defensive maneuvers with a Trainor 1v1. This will drastically improve your life performance. It's so important in AH. You must check your 6 constantly. Plan defensive maneuvers through timing and distance. It's more advanced, but learning these things will greatly improve your life and performance and you will get more kills.
5. Join a squad. The "pings in the wings" or " 367th Dynamite gang" ect. These squads will greatly help you improve in all aspects of the game. You will have a lot of fun.
6. Fly planes like the Ki84, N1K2, 190D, spit8. They are balanced, they are great for training, they will help you learn basic ACM easier, hold a lot of ammo, easier to fly than others. Use planes like KI84 Nik and spit to learn turn fighting techniques, use the 190D for BnZ techniques. These planes are the best for learning how to be comfortable will stalling and E management.
7 . E management and stalling are important in AH. Work on these concepts. Stalling and using flaps with throttle can you turn inside planes much easier, sometimes being heavy on the stick is good. Using E and being light on stick will help you gain advantages and get out of trouble. Both are very important to success. When and how to use them is the process of practicing and getting use to the feeling of your planes. Really try to learn how to read other players E. It will greatly help you in timing of maneuvers and what you can get away with.
6. Learn how to merge on your enemies. Merges are very important. Setting up the shot, getting in close on their 6, getting the angle advantage, are all important to the merge. Not just head on merges, but any type of merge. Work on getting your nose out infront of theirs, and getting the angle for a shot.
7. Read external sources about ACM, merging, and E management.
This game takes a lot of practice and dedication. It's all about how good you want to be. Practice and practice. 1v1 fighting will greatly help you. Learn how the planes fly. Learn the planes strengths and weaknesses to help you win fights. This all takes time and experience of course. Don't get discouraged. Its a very challenging game, but that makes it fun and the reason why I keep playing. You can fly easy planes, hard planes, and always challenge yourself to get better. It will help a lot.
What is your in-game name? If I see you on, I'll gladly take you up and show you a few things about what I've discussed.
