Packet loss
« on: November 05, 2016, 06:49:23 PM »
I used ping plotter and found I was losing packets on hops 10 and 11.  Is there anything that can be done about this?

Thank You,

FireBall

You do realize that is the WEB server and not a game server?

To answer your question.  There is not much of anything, anyone can do about packet loss between your ISP and our ISP.  All anyone can do is complain to the respective ISP's.

You can complain to above.net that the gateway (zayo) is dropping packets.  We can complain to Softlayer they are dropping packets.

I went to the technical faq section on the Aces High web sight and this is what it said

Try downloading a traceroute utility to test your connection speed.  (At www.pingplotter.com there is a freeware program called PingPlotter.)
race to www.hitechcreations.com.  Ideally, your connection should have no more than 250ms ping times to this server.  Also, MAKE SURE there is NO packet loss whatsoever.  If you do see packet loss, post your traceroute to the technical support forum and let HTC contact the appropriate networks.

What is the IP for the game server?

Thank You

As of Feb 1 this year....

First, the server IP addresses, to be used for traces/ping plots.

Axis vs Allies, Late, Special Events 1, The Playroom, Custom Arenas: 71.252.137.154
Dueling, Training, Early, Mid, Special Events 2, World War I: 71.252.137.153

However with AH3 just released it may have changed.

HTC is not responsible for the internet. Their request to an ISP are pretty much handle the same way your request to ISPs would be handled. You can contact your internet provider and tell them about the issues but it may be difficult to get them to act. The more you push the ISP the farther up the chain you will get and the better the response.

I think it has changed .  Open Melee is 71.252.137.153 according to the net stat window i pull up before entering the game. According to that all the arena's are on 71.252.137.153 except for the dueling arena .  If anyone has other info on this let me know thanks

They are still the same.  Only the names have changed.  We may re-organize them, one more time.

The combination of the election happening and Verizon suffering a huge network outage all over the U.S. has caused a lot of problems.  Level3 is a problem all by itself as it is very oversold.

Gateway between RR and Level3 looks like it is in bad shape.  Not surprising.

When you call them, do not waste time with the first line of support.  Their job is to get you off the phone.  Ask for higher level of support, preferably a network support person.  Tell the first tier support person it is not a local issue, but it is impacting your ability to use the service.

Good luck.
