This Spitfire Mk V was part of GRII/33, a French Air Force reconnaissance squadron that operated various marks of Spitfire in Italy from mid 1944. This squadron shared an airfield and sometimes flew missions in concert with the F-6 Mustangs of the USAAF's 111th Tactical Squadron and this probably led to the adoption of US-style yellow ID bands on the wings.
The RL aircraft had clipped wingtips, but this is considered an acceptable substitution for AH.
