track ir views
« on: December 11, 2016, 10:44:19 AM »
When I play team fusion atag cliffs of dover. I am able to move my head and and the view moves around. But in ah3, it is like the view is stuck in one place. Can pan around, and look up, but cannot move closer to instrument panel, or around canopy frames or seat headrest. Real annoying that I cannot look around headrest for better rear view, or move so that canopy frame does not block cons, or move head closer for closer view of instrument panel.

I have looked for track ir settings, but other than in vr, I cannot find any settings. I have tried numerous settings in track ir, but nothing changes the inability to move around in ah3.

Played ah2 some time ago with track ir, but cannot remember if I had the problem before, did not play ah2 for long.

Prior to having track ir, I was able to adjust the views and get view settings that allowed looking around the headrest using the hat switch.

I know ah is extremely limited when it comes to realism, but does it intentionally limit the track ir 6 degrees of freedom capability or is there some setting that needs to be changed?

It's not limiting the 6dof, something seems to be wrong with the track ir settings.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with a profile for you that you can test.

Your head should be able to move around freely within the cockpit using TrackIR. With AH3 you can also look around and move your head position with TrackIR while using hat views. I just tried mine with the latest patch and it works normally.

You can try resetting your head position to default. Take the led/reflector off or turn TrackIR off, reset the head position with the Home key then F10 to save.

Thanks for the replies.

I determined it was the ah3 installation itself. I had installed it on a second disk, when I installed on the primary OS disk, track ir worked as it should. Since this is an old win 7 install, over 3 years, and was having a couple of issues other than with ah3. I decided it was time to do a clean install as it was over due. I normally do not run winblows at all, but occasionally spin it up to play a windblows only game. Since all the updates over the years will have to be installed, have no idea how long that will be, numerous hours certainly.

With Linux, I would be up and running in 10-15 minutes with any of the various Linux binary installs and everything up to date with the initial install. Since I develop with Gentoo and have a cross compilation distributed compiling cluster. I could do an install in less than 5 mins with my own pre-compiled binary packages. How I despise windblows, it is a real shame that we are forced to use such an asinine OS like windblows. What really blows, is that with win 7 premium, I have 32 GB of ram, but only 16 gb is usable. While my graphics card has 8 gb but only 4 gb is usable. Really sucks.

Thanks for the input. I think when the clean install is finished track ir should work correctly.

No, definitely not AH3.Well it could be! No idea as to how the way you installed the game would matter? I have no idea what you were talking about :(  TrIR is all about the axis curves you use. Some like to use TIR with the hatswitch views together. This means using a saved head position for each stop on hat switch, just like without Tir. Tir is then used to pan around on that particular region. I use no hat switches for views at all. I use every axis in my TIR setup with exception of ROLL ans TRUE VIEW. I have my speed slider(at top of camera view panel on TIR start up screen) set at 2.8 and my smooth at 50(maxed). From there I have set my individual curves with fairly steep or fast curves. Several of my axis curves look more like a "y" but with a straight line at bottom of curve. For example, if you set the individual points along the curve(with MIRROR) checked it will look like this. In motion adjustment section, un check every box BUT Yaw. then in then in Axis select select Yaw as axis. The profile box doesnt need to be changed as you will create a new template for this axis if you save it. So now in the X and Y point plot boxes just enter these values. The shared point(the one right on o in the graph) it will be 0.0 and 0.0. Point 2(with mirror on both sides go to matching points) its 8.4x-0.0y,3 is 14.0x-4.0y,4 is 22.5x-6.5y,5 is 36.0x-6.5y,6 is 48.1x-6.5y. the only axis that i have set in a far steeper curve is X axis, so just UN-check yaw and check X and enter these points in same way. This axis is pretty extreme compared to my other curves. Bustr calls it chair yoga, but my curves make it a bit more less like exercise.A simple lean to one side and poof around the nose and around a headrest. Make sure to put X into the axis box. so shared point 0.0x-0.0y,2 is 3.0x-0.0y,3 is 9.5x-10.2y,4 is 18.0x-16.0y, 5 is33.0x-19.0y,6 is 48.0x-19.0y. all these points as I am placing them are on the positive or right side of graph. This should give you an better idea about setting curve values but folk are different. This should help you in setting up a profile that you are comfortable with. Hope this helps you out brother! :rock TIR was probably the best investment I ever made in gaming. I have bought around a dozen or so over the last few years, I just loved it that much.  :aok   If you like I can send or post the points of the rest of my curves

Oh and the download, its completely autonomous from the old version. Its a simple download and with the newest release patches. May take several minutes, depending on computer but definitely not hours. It is more Graphics card dependent in AH3, well almost all graphics card as I understand it. So with a card with enough memory you should be good to go  I think :old:

1stpar3 thanks for the info. What you described is pretty much how I set up track ir, for a faster response. What I was speaking that will take hours, are all the updates that need to done when doing a clean install of windows 7.

Since I had to figure out the stuck on updating error, and find the correct fix, which I finally found. Finally today getting to installing all the OS updates, yes it was stuck running update all night! Stupid m$ crap.

It really is to bad that hitechcretions does not use Linux to build an OS around their game. As an example chrome OS is Gentoo Linux, custom built to what google wants, NASA also uses Gentoo, as well as many other high end super computers. Nearly all of the 500 top super computers run Linux. There is a reason for that.

In other words, hitechcreations could use Gentoo and custom build the OS around the game utilizing opengl for the gaming engine. Which would allow complete control over everything. Which could then be distributed and installed on a usb stick, sd card, or hardrive or ssd. The Linux kernel already has all the hardware support, the rest would simply be the bare necessities which would provide for a very small OS. Which could then be booted from any kind of drive, it would would be small enough that everything could be run directly from ram, as ram is inexpensive. Which would eliminate the greatest bottles neck, i/o with the drive. Which would allow people to use older hardware at a performance level that could only be dreamed of with a m$ OS.

Simply set up an rsync server and a binary depository to distribute OS updates, everything needed is already build into Gentoo, which is why google uses it, and uncounted software and Linux developers. So simple, yet not one game developer is taking full advantage of the capabilities of Linux. It would eliminate the need to build the game to run on numerous versions of m$ OS's, and all the resultant ongoing problems that every user of m$ OS's experiences.

An install utilizing Linux would take the time to download the installation file, then copy to a drive, then boot, and up and running in game. If a usb stick or sd card was used, a person could simply stick either into any computer and boot it up and be playing in the time it takes to boot.

Sticking with an antiquated m$ OS, with no control over anything, really does not make any sense at all.

SteamOS has come along, but unfortunately their implementation is not what it could be. Only due to their lack of understanding of what can be done with Linux, along with their attempt to use a pre-compiled binary distro. If they had used Gentoo, they could have had much greater control over how each and every package is compiled, then distributed as a binary for the user installs.

Since AH is approx. 17 years old, and still not all aircraft have realistic cockpits, while many aircraft types are not available, with the graphics level a half a decade behind. I highly doubt, anything as ambitious as moving to Linux would ever happen, even though it would be the best thing to do. Considering the reluctance to build out the company with additional personal, one would think they would be smart enough to take advantage of open source and the millions of people that contribute to open source. Before some idiot chimes in with they will not release the game as open source, get your facts straight first. The game itself does not have to be open sourced, it can simply be distributed as a binary just like it currently is.

What is really interesting, is that even though team fusion atag cliffs of dover is much harder to play than AH, due to the realism. There are more people playing cliffs of dover than AH, even though AH has been around much longer. Since AH's history shows that many wrong decisions have been made, the numbers themselves speak of that. I highly doubt AH will ever be able to build itself back to its previous level of use, irrespective of what OS is used.

Hi SinOjos,

Did you get your TrackIR problem solved?  I'm a recent convert and think I had problems like that too - check your profile settings in TrackIR software and ensure all are checked:
Yaw, Pitch, Roll, X, Y, Z, and TrueView.

I found if I uncheck "Z", I get the problem you describe - can't move my head forward or backward and have TrackIR follow the motion.

Oboe, are you using the HAT clip? Looked like it in your screen shot! Man you really need to get the Trackclip Pro!! It is 100% more accurate in mho. Its also has less other light source interference. Its the clip that mounts onto your head set....unless of coarse you dont use a head set I guess :headscratch: It would be worth the investment.

Yep, and noted - I'll look into it.  I do experience crazy light source interference in the afternoons cuz I have a west facing window in my study.   Thnks!

That could do it for a fact. Incase you didnt know, you can also set the sensitivity of the camera/receptor not really sure what to call it, The thing that reads your clip :bhead It is adjustable on several, secondary light and other settings. Its under the Camera tab :headscratch: ok Camera must be what its called

Thanks for all the replies. Yes it is working now. Still attempting to get all the OS updates completed, on the 3rd day now. Having to go through each and every update individually to get them to install, starting with the earliest ones. With around 400 updates, I am getting close to not bothering with wasting any more of my time. Unfortunately the major issues I have can only be rectified by m$, which I highly doubt will change their evil ways.

Really unbelievable as I build custom OS's based on the Linux kernel, amd64 and arm. I can compile from scratch a complete running Linux system in much less time, than this clean install of win 7 is taking. A binary Linux install literally takes just minutes. I have no idea why doing the updates takes so long, as they are binary installs, that are already compiled. Part of the problem is the download speeds, combined with all the bugs. It is obvious that m$ has made it as difficult as possible to do a clean install of windows 7. It is clearly intentional, obviously in an attempt to get people to move to windblows 10. Found their download that has all the updates to 2016 in one file, but of course it does not work!

I have no idea how you guys put up with such crappy performance along with all the other issues with m$ products, not to mention having to pay for the really crappy software.

But perhaps they have seen the light, they are talking about making winblows open source, and have recently joined the Linux Foundation. Time will tell what their real intentions are. As they were complicit with stopping amd64 and Linux being put on the shelves in the middle 2000's, more than a year prior to them having a 64 bit OS and Intel having a 64 bit processor, not to mention the SCO scam in the early 2000's. Of which they were complicit in financing and ultimately found to mostly be merit-less. IBM, Novel, Red Hat still have ongoing claims due to the damage caused by the BS lawsuits. There is still a lot of misconceptions concerning Linux that were started by m$ in the early 2000's, that are still believed today, yet not true. Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCO/Linux_controversies

But anyways, track ir is working as it should. Still a pain to get that perfect setup though, will take some time. This is the last instance of winblows I will ever deal with. When it is no longer supported, no more winblows games for me, not many games are only m$ any longer, only a few hold outs left. With Vulkan being the new up and coming replacement for opengl, and AMD having made their drivers open source for the Linux users, the old arguments for not building for Linux are becoming fewer. I have been gaming since 1981, long before windblows came along, did not need it then, do not need it now.

AH is no great loss for me, as it has gone in a direction that deters me from being a continuing monthly subscriber, like so many of the old players. I will stick with paying for a month and checking it out for a week or few every year to see if things have improved, but history shows it will not improve. Looks like it will be a long slow death, as there are clearly not enough subscribers to keep the lights lit, usually less than 100 online playing. Even if there are a total of 1000 subscribers that is only 15K a month, after taxes, overhead, salaries, highly unlikely the revenue is paying all the bills. It will only last as long as Dale continues putting his own money into it. Perhaps he has deep enough pockets that it really does not concern him at all, more power to him, there are other alternatives out there, while some are better in many aspects.

Thanks for all the replies. But unfortunately my days here are most probably limited. To much of a pita dealing with windblows, combined with where AH has gone, will most probably keep me on the Linux side of things.

Might I ask? Why Windows 7?  I am so sorry that the game isnt to your liking. I wasnt able to play this game years ago, in the hay day! Even if I had found it back then, it would have been a bad thing. Would have lost my job and my kids would have never seen me lol    This game was a God send for me! :salute I was dealing with having to stop working due to Ms in 2005, and by 2013 I was feeling the effects. It was mass depression, just felt like I had failed my family, you know? Then I had a house fire, and stayed in neighbors house, while the rebuild and salvage was done. The neighbor had American Hero network, or thats what its called now, and saw an add for Aces High! That add was a life saver, for me! I have always loved air planes and had just about every flight sim available, from Commodore 64, to Play Station 3. On Ah I found a great group of guys, we just clicked and it was great! The depression had brought  me way down but finding these new brothers helped me keep going on. I know that it sounds a bit pathetic, true I may have been able to overcome it on my own but I am positive AH helped out immensely! I would love to experience the full arenas that you are probably remembering and hate to see anyone leave! Maybe you will change your mind about Ah. One more Red or Green guy would be great! Thats just me being selfish I guess? I do however see where you are coming from, even if I cant fully wrap my head around it. Its not the flashiest game out there, but it is the best I have found and the people I meet makes it worth it! But I understand :aok

SinOjos, there's two ways I know about how to get the Windows 7 updates after a clean install. The first one is to let your computer be on for as long as it takes, usually a couple of days. Notice that sleep mode has to be disabled! If you make Windows Update search for updates, it will do so after the automatic update process has finished but it will allow you to choose which updates to install.

The second way is described here: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2016/05/17/simplifying-updates-for-windows-7-and-8-1/. The link mentioned in the article has to be opened with Internet Explorer, no other browsers will work. You'll need the two updates installed with a reboot in between.

I wonder what was going on with the one used computer I ordered for a customer a month ago: It downloaded the updates while I was doing my regular maintenance chores on it, taking only an hour or so!
