I've been trying to work on getting back to what my skill level/abilities were at back around 2003 through 2007.... I know that it's going to be dang near impossible to achieve, but if I could at least get somewhere close, I would be OK with that....

Spek, a lot of people think that throttle management while performing a "rolling scissors" is really crucial... I would recommend working on your lead/lag, and controlling the arch/arc of your rolling turn while maintaining WOT (wide open throttle)....you should not and do not want to be coming off your throttle any at all if you can help it...use the plane's vector to gain the advantage by using steeper or shallower rolls pointing that lift vector where you need it while maintaining maximum throttle

Hope this helps

TC

Interesting TC. Will look into that when I get a chance to fly again. Are you talking about creating more lateral separation between me and the enemy?  I guess if I fly a wider circle and the enemy flies a tighter circle I will eventually get behind him but if he's cutting throttle? Idk what would happen.

Buff killing. Flying behind them and hosing them down from 600 is suboptimal.

I know how I should approach them - I just don't have the patience.

Been trying using the La-5 for base defense.  Just can't seem to hit anything with its guns.  I even set up a "target" offline to see where the bullets actually go -- right where they're supposed to.   :headscratch:

I would have to say that I need to work most on my gunnery since I have been back.

also some of the other things that I have had issues with is SA and knowing when to extend to get back on top of the fight.

gaining angles and getting snapshot strikes is an issue and keeps me in the fight too long.

I have been starting to get my chops back and I am excited to know when I put it all together I will be back up to speed.

I have only flown the Pony in my flying career since the beginning of AW.

I have tried to fly other air craft but my style does not fit too well I have always been a B&Z pilot and other B&Z types with very little success.  could be that i have no interest in them other than the F4U.

when I first came back I was astounded to see that the skill of everyone in AH.  and that either they have improved or I was just that rusty.  I think it is a little of both.

1000 deaths = Good Virtual Pilot. So club away I will play the part of the baby seal and get me re education <g>

definitely my gunnery.. Although this has been a thing for some time, AH3 has really kicked my butt in this department... After many cries, foot stomps, broken keyboards and blasphemous filled rants,  I think things may be getting better. But it is early days yet....Once I have this section down a little better my next area to improve on is my merges...especially in a multi con v me situation and fighting from an advantage...this is something I fail miserably at...

trying to rocket ho more often.  it's a lot of fun, specially when the other player dont know what hit him.  once I killed a low flying p47 from 600 with rockets.  I got accused of cheating.

For you K4 guys, I followed Waystin around in K4's this week because we may have to fly them this month in FSO. In real life at 400m the 30mm dropped 12 inches but, had a dispersion circle of 29ft. Hadn't flown a K4 in AH3 until this week, so it was an eye opener when I sat 400 dead 6 on a con, tapped the 30mm only, 6 rounds, and saw one round hit the very outside tip of the left wing.  I watched a german guncam film once of a B24 being shot at with 30mm and the tracer curved to the right and hit to tip area of the right wing.

Check it out sometime offline, auto level at 300TA, pull up the target at 400. Then shoot only the 30mm and remember the rings on the target are 10 feet wide. So at 500 meters per second with a 29ft dispersion circle at 400, even with 400 as your convergence. Even if you lead a fighter with 100Mil per 100mph, you still may shoot really high, low, or in left field somewhere. Now against a bomber, probably will get hits.

I guess I'm practicing to get a K4's spinner up my cons exhaust system before I tap the trigger this month since we have three FSO Fridays ahead of us.

hmmm.... yeah... looked at the film (not really sure what I was looking for) it shows hits directly on the top of the hatch but never thought it was possible...still don't believe it should have been.....can't even kill a M3 as easily as that happened

I'm no expert in the K4 but I really can't hit anything directly behind an enemy. Put me 400 off and in a turn bang bang.
