Town Ack?
« on: February 20, 2017, 06:04:38 AM »
Town ack seems more accurate.  I lost two planes in my normal dive bomb attack before I released the bombs.  Then my M4 lost its rockets just as I broke into the clearing surrounding town long before the gap leading to the town.

Just curious if anybody else has noticed the change.  No complaint here since it is the same for everyone.

That would most likely be bad luck.

Agreed Randy. I was able to de-ack a town in AH2, with little or no damage, about 70% of the time. The figure is now probably closer to 15%.

I think it's more that all of their planes say regular bacon...yours says thick cut pepper bacon. Town ack is making a choice....

Waystin's says "Thick cut maple/peppercorn bacon double wrapped around cream cheese jalapeno's".

At least that's the icon I see whenever I attack and kill him.  Which happens a lot.  Over and over again, easily, not even a challenge, my dog was flying not to long ago when I was taking a leak and even he got a kill.  He didn't like the jalapeno though and left it.  The bacon and creme cheese he ate however.

While we are talking about ack...   I have noticed puffy ack more often around towns and bases.   Outside of the flak towers, do any bases have automatic flak?  Or is this just a case of more players using manned guns?

Changes were made to both AA and how damage is taken in bombers from what I have noticed. A lot easier to down bombers these days. I blame it on improved graphic system :devil

AH2 towns had the same # of guns, but had a mix of rapid firing 37mm in round gun pits and slow firing in the square pits.  AH3 has 8 rapid firing / slightly closer together / tighter "kill box"

Randy, regarding your M4 if you listen to the right Stevie Ray Vaughan song you'll have ur answer.   As for losing planes it's because you fly your P38 like an ice cream truck  :P

On more than one occasion I have de-acked ports and towns with an M-3 without getting kilt. I will have to try it again this week and see if it has changed.

I think AH2 towns were harder to deack, the 3 guns in the center was a pain in the.. to kill, now the guns are more spread out and if you use rockets and aim well it can be deacked in 2 passes.

AH3 towns are a lot easier to de-ack than ah2 by setup. HiTech has said in recent past that your kill box grows if your not flying in a straight line. I have observed dramtic cases of this when bombimg at low alt in b17's over towns or city strat near flak towers. If I am calibrated and level bombing at 3k im loosing at least 1 bird with massive damage to the other 2 planes. Where as if i come in fast at a low angle of attack contantly changing direction I can swoop any auto-ack defended target without suffering major losses to any plane. Obviously with drones they will extend away in a turn if your nose is pointed down but it helps avoid ack in the process.

In town, while deacking, the ack gets my M4 rockets say one out of ten times.  It is out of town that I lost the rockets and one M3.  The more i think about these two incidents the more I wonder if it had to do with the approch.  Both times no planes were over town pulling fire.  Both time it was approaching the town entrance with the big gap and no bridges.  Still a really long, single shot.

The lost planes.  Could have just been a string of bad luck as Zimme posted.

Anecdotally I find when in a GV that the ack in general is much more gentle than I remember in AH2. I used to get tracked constantly while deacking, now not so much. In a plane it seems like a roll of the dice like always, If I keep it fast and don't pull up I often get through completely unscathed but every so often its one shot straight to tower. Also seems like there are more accurate man gunners these days.

I should have been more specific.  My bad.  I was posting about recent changes in AH3.   I do agree with you that AH2 was more difficult to deack than AH3.
