New system or just video card

I am trying to decide on upgrading to a 1060 or building a whole new system. I'm currently running an I5-750 at 3400 and am not sure if this old of a system will do alright in AH3 with just a video card upgrade. Any input would be appreciated. Here's my dxdiag. My current monitor is 60 hertz 1920 x 1080.

Couple of things I'm seeing. You're running win7/64 with only 4 gigs of ram? Gotta fix that first and that's cheaper. The 5700 is definitely on the slow side. I recently upgraded my 6950 to a 1060 and love it. Think it'll be perfect for AH for the foreseeable future running a single monitor @ 1080p. Make sure your PSU is up to the task. The good news there is the 1060 is pretty thrifty on power. My 1000w is kinda overkill now. The i5 should be fine I'd think.

If I decide to upgrade the video card I'll look into more memory. I put this together in 2010 and at the time 4GB was considered to be plenty. Thanks for the input Drano.

Oh and upon further review you seem to have 4 audio devices. Disable any that you aren't actually using as that'll be a conflict.

Good Morning band,

what Drano recommended was spot on, with purchasing a Nvidia GTX 1060 6 GB video card, just be sure to ask for recommendations on/or do thorough research on which models/brands of the GTX 1060 6 GB video card to get.... their are a lot of different brands / models that at face value look like the same thing, but in depth checking of the specs tells a different story, to where one video card might be selling for an example of $198.00 and another one that appears to be the same thing is selling for example: $215.00, but the higher cost is the better buy because of it's features, clock speeds, etc

I checked your MB specs, it appears you have 4 DIMM Slots of the DDR3 variety and your MB will accept up to 16 GB's of System ram

what Brand/Model is your current AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series 2 GB Video Card? if you decide to upgrade your Video card, I might be interested in your 5700 series existing video card, possibly, depending on the model/specs.... I have a 4 DIMM set of Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz DDR3 ( 4 x 4 GB sticks - low profile heat spreaders  - Lifetime warranty), that we could possible swap out in trade if you are interested......

one other thing.... When you are doing a DXDIAG report, you should turn your computer off, then start up your computer, once the computer has started up and you are at your desktop, do not start any programs or get on the internet or anything... after about 10 to 15 minutes of sitting idle right after starting your computer, then initiate the DXDIAG and then save it to text file........ this will give you a more accurate reading of your Computer's page file information ( ie:  Page File: 4003MB used, 4177MB available ) <---- a good clean running windows 7 64 bit OS  usually should be in the 700 ~ 900 MB used range....

Just confirming what has been said. More RAM and a video card should most likely be enough for a huge boost in AH3 performance.

While changing the card, use DDU to get rid of the old drivers: http://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=772&sid=989c4f17b3005ba5f313ccb006a10aab. That will take care of one of the audio devices, too. Also, when installing the new drivers, do a custom install. For AH3 you'd basically need the video driver only, so uncheck the 3D and HD audio etc.

I'm getting a GTX 750 ti this thursday. My CPU is slower than your i5. I'll post how it goes.
It'll be offline as i haven't activated muy account for online flying. Im mentioning this coz
the 750 ti is cheaper than the 1060 and only requires 60w from the PSU.

i think you only issue is that chipset may limit you to pcie 2.0 speeds but shouldn't be that big of issue. X58 chipset?

It's a P55 chipset. From what I've read on the difference in performance between using the pcie 2.0 versus pcie 3.0 the performance loss should be negligible. I did get the 1060 and installed it. It is doing just fine with my system.

After reviewing this thread and your DXDIAG report, it looks like the reason for your pagefile MB's used being nearly maxed out with regards to what your windows 7 OS shows pagefile MB's available... is because you are currently only working with 4 GBs of System Memory so your Windows 7 OS matched that and sized your pagefile size to 4177 MBs available....

Once you install more system memory and check your computer to make sure that your system memory is running at the speed you desire ( note: depending on motherboard/bios, you might have XMP speed profiles available to select XMP 1, XMP 2, XMP 3 speed setting profiles.)

Get your system memory set to run at either 1333, 1600, 1866, 2000, 2133 MHz speed ( depending on motherboard, it will default at 1333 or 1600, and should provide you with the options of another 1 to 3 XMP profiles )

After you have set it up to your liking, then do a fresh boot and run the DXDIAG report....

I am thinking that your pagefile used will most likely be a good bit lower, and your pagefile available will be probably around four times the size it currently is showing...

Note: my assumptions are not taking into consideration the size and available free space of the Hard Drive.... I haven't seen any information about your HD ....so I could possibly be wrong in my assumptions
