IN before the Lock...
« on: March 17, 2017, 11:01:36 AM »
Why? Just why?

I don't participate in many BBS, so my commentary is perhaps less broadly informed on this topic.

However, WTF is so attractive about, just prior (ideally last) to the inevitable Skuzzy lock, posting to an obviously moribund thread? We all know which ones they are, generally, with notable exceptions being those that take a bad turn.

Do other BBS have a similar bent?

I've noticed that, yes, I like it too. There's something really satisfying about getting IN before the lock.

If you have a question, why not just send him a PM with questions on the rule?  :headscratch:

Otherwise, this is just going to be another locked thread.

Oh, but that was all part of the "master plan for irony" Mister Fork...

I should add, also, that nowhere in this thread do I ask WHY threads get locked. Anybody who's bothered to read the forum rules and seen a lock or two knows.

However, I do find it odd that I, a person generally as serious and purposeful as I should be, still find it fun to do the IBtL thing. It's both childish and fun.

There are certain topics here that went posted, causes a lot of name calling, finger pointing, and down right nasty responses.  People here are passionate about religion, politics, and race discussions. Either of these three topics tend to end in them being locked, forum accounts suspended, and feelings hurt. Hence rule 14.

They really never end well hence why they're in the rules - just our own experience I guess in running this forum.  I've been using online forums since the early 1980's and the three RPR topics never ever have ended well in any discussion format online.  And when we see them, they're auto locked.

Don't take it personal, it's just that this isn't the place to discuss those three items.

Sure - and I never do take it personally. Skuzzy has a mission and he's, by God, trying to make the forum friendly and accommodating to all, not just to the bottom-feeding locker-room talkers and political flame-posters. Generally, I think he plays a pretty even-handed role and is true to his purpose.

One obviously poisonous thread came up today. I jumped at the chance, and this is truly silly, not to post on the topic (which I knew to be toxic and off-limits), but to put two stupid lines of text IN there that used all caps to highlight the word IN in the four embedded places I used it. Sure enough, not an hour later, that thread was locked...

But I felt pretty good, because I'd posted in it. It's just a strange phenomenon - that I should feel so satisfied about something so trivial .

It's sorta like a facepalm.....
I do wish, sometimes, Skuzzy would let some of them go a bit longer, they're SO much fun...

I was IN, because the guy stood up and spoke his mind.
Even tho he knew he would be hammered down, BANG BANG BANG! He did it anyway!

Just a thought here...

I'm sure Skuzzy has enough to do without doing daycare duty on the boards. I too have been guilty of having a post or two getting ruled. I try to police myself but get pulled in to a discussion sometimes and boom. I do not take it to heart. I generally know if I am pushing the envelope. IF I feel that way I either change it to something silly or at least take the edge off my post.

The last perfect man walked this earth over 2000 years ago. Has not been one since. We can however try to make Skuzzy's job easier by doing our best to police ourselves.

I'll stop now before I fracture a rule. :)
