Joystick scaling/damping settings
« on: March 17, 2017, 02:19:56 PM »
I'm having some challenges getting my old X-52 setup properly. I'm finding that most of the time that my joystick inputs are quite 'jerky' and not refined and I'm having a hard time trying to get the control to be smooth.  Any recommendations guys on a good setup utilizing the damping and scaling of input?

Current setup:
- Right now I have all damping, deadzones, and scaling off.
- I have some deadzones in for the twist, but that's in the calibration with the OS drivers, not in game
- Stick is a X-52 (it's old but underused).  Still a good stick. Some reason my pinky button isn't working anymore...

Scaling varies per user, but a funny story, I bought an x56 to replace my old jerky / spiky x52, at the same time I bought a new powered hub, a much better hub than the old one I got at Staples years ago, long story short I didn't like the X56 so I returned it but kept the new hub, was I surprised when I hooked the old x52 back up and my jerky / spikes were gone.

PS I have almost stock scaling with a small amount of dampening, the twist is scaled and dampened about twice as much as the other axis

Interesting point on the power here Hungry.  I'll check and see where on my Asus mobo where the X52 is plugged into.  I have some power charging USB ports where the voltage is 5V but it also has 1 Amp current.  Any idea what's causing the pinky button to stop functioning (it's often called the clutch button)?

If I recall its connected to a little micro switch, my pinkie (assuming its the lower button on the stick itself) I use mine for the map, compressed air may help but I think you'll have to take the handle apart to get to it. My clutch button is on the throttle but I don't use it because I don't use a profile I go straight to the AH control setup

Fork,

try opening the saitek control panel and leave it open then enter the game.  I seem to recall that a couple of the buttons were not recognized by the game but opening the control panel seemed to be a work around.

It's been so long I dont remember exactly which buttons/ switches are effected. Also IIRC there were 1 or 2 that only worked if programed with the SST software, which I totally hated and never used!

Are you using the profiling software Fork?  If so, if you started your profile from default if memory serves, the pinky initiates shift states.  If that's going on, if you get rid of the shift state/don't load a profile, the pinky should work.  Ironically if memory serves you need to use a profile to use the clutch button on the throttle in the middle of the lower rotary as a button.
