Uhhhh, no. 

Uh, yes. Most of NASA's vehicles and systems were designed and programmed in SI units (metric). Even the Apollo flight computer did all its calculations in metric, but displayed data and accepted input in imperial units, since that's what the astronauts were used to. The whole science of rocketry and space industry has been shaped by the weird American-(ex)Nazi collaboration. For example the reason "specific impulse" exists as a measurement of engine efficiency is because the US military on the one hand did all of their measurements in imperial units, while Wernher von Braun and his fellow Nazi rocket scientists did all of theirs in metric. Internally, both did measure their engines using raw exhaust velocity, the Americans in feet per second, the Germans in meters per second. The "specific impulse" measure arose so that scientists from both sets could talk to one another without having to constantly resort to the tedium of converting units or confusing the other party.

We didn't need Von Braun.   We had our own great scientists.    But he shortened the timeline.   Americans are experts at FREE AGENCY.

By the way, my Vietnam data above was meant to be about the Vietnam war and only contained reference to the metric system because of the picture I was lampooning.

The metric system is vastly superior.

I remember in my younger days when the US made the attempt to switch, but it didn't work, mainly I believe because of only a few ingrained measures (miles, miles/hour, pounds, and fahrenheit) -- basically driving their cars, temperature, and weight of heavy things (like how much a person weighs) were the points of stubbornness.  Everything else is fine in metric -- folks are used to nuts and bolts in mm (thanks to Japanese motorcycles), volume in liters (thanks to the ubiquitous 2-liter bottles of soda), and grams of things in food.
