K4 on 25% fuel feels kind of insane. If you get about 10 seconds to accelerate level, you'll give a few guys headaches.

Heh, if you get 10 seconds to accelerate level in that configuration you'll just about run out of gas in that thing... but what a ride before you go!  :P

In terms of an uphill fight it means fighting your way up to cons above you with alt and speed. Like rolling against a base attack where everybody has speed and alt on you. It means more than just upping as bait/distraction, it means taking the fight to them and stopping them. The Ta152 is not a good match for this. It's heavy, doesn't climb all that well, and not overly nimble.

I get that some folks just love a ride, and no problem with that. But not every plane is good in every situation. Some, like the P-47 and the Ta152 are very mediocre in the climbing category and as such will be significantly disadvantaged in these scenarios. While I love them I wouldn't up them under enemy fire.

The 109K-4 has a very excellent climb rate, thus it would be a good uphill battler. The Ki-84 has good low-to-mid-alt climb and can hang on its nose while still keeping its lightweight handling and stable guns platform. Yak-3 sounds like it more than owns most planes in the game, too. I'd say Spit16 still remains one of the best climbers and turn fighters in the game with a pair of hispanos and 50cals, so it will always be a good uphill fighter. My personal fav? I'll add a vote to a Ki-84 with 20 minutes' worth of gas (or less if I'm not going past the field boundary).

If I have to get off the ground without being killed - Ki-84.  If I have a minute or so to get altitude and speed - 109 (either a K4 or a G14).  It makes no sense to up something that doesn't have enough firepower to get kills since if I am upping from a capped base it must be a very desperate situation.

Yak-3 with 50% fuel is a beast. It's tiny, fast, accelerates like a cheetah, and turns like a Spitfire (not as good, but it's much faster) and it also has a tiny footprint in the air making it harder to hit.

I love getting on the tail of anything in the Yak and just hang on beating them up with MG's and closing in for kill with the 20mm.

It's low ammo #'s make it difficult to get more than 2 or 3 kills in a sortie but it's kinda like a ride on a fast but short rollercoaster. It's a lot of fun rolled up in a tiny plane.

There are planes that were built for defending and planes built for attacking. Most of the time it's based on the country of the plane. US planes attack extremely well with altitude. Japanese planes are great for defending. 109s are great for both, Russian planes are generally great for both but better for defense.

The best defensive planes are: Ki84, Nik La7\5, 109K, G14, Yak3, A6M, ki43, any spit. These will get off the ground very quickly, and can turn instantly to force an over shoot. Cannons are the best option for defense. Counter punch defensive tactics to reverse an opponent and pop them with a cannon or 2 is very crucial. You want attack planes to go around and around losing their E to try to kill you. Getting them low and slow by incorperating the over shoot is key.

Krusty was correct in saying that some favorite planes mentioned are terrible defense planes because they are offense planes.  P47, P38, P51, 190D, 152s, typhoons ect, are all the worst planes you could possibly roll for base defense. Especially if you don't know what you are doing. These planes are best suited for going to a base and picking off the lower cons beneath you.

Choosing the right plan for the situation can be the difference in your overall performance in the game,ie getting more kills and landing them.

Up from a different base in a fast moving plane of choice and attack those taking off from the base that the enemy is originating from.

You dont have to kill everything that ups. Just stay alive long enough keep the opponent busy for a little while while those at your base have a chance to recover.
This works 90% of the time as people 98% of the people upping from a base cannot help themselves but follow a lone attacking plane at their base like a school of well trained fish.

Nailed it there.  Thats why its such a bummer to see folks using m3s to supply rather than fight it out.

La7/109k4 are great for this scenario

That explains alot! Know I understand why you are always killing my donkey on take offs, from back fields. Here I was thinking that you just had it in for me! I have seen you use that tactic quite a bit(interpreted- *&^%$%^ vulching A hole lol). It works too! I have seen it? Hey, at least now I know it isnt personal  :neener:

I played "The Rat Catcher of Hamelin" in a 262 in the past at heavily capped bases. No way I'm going to kill 'em all by myself... but everybody wants to get a kill on a 262.
So I just throttled back, circled the field until I got their attention and then slowly pulled them away from the base... just slowed down enough to give em a fluff'n hope  :devil

Worked remarkably well. Use their greed against them, I say  :old:

Taking the attack to where the attackers are coming from is so overlooked and rare in the main arena.

I'll see guys taking off right under enemy fighter cap over and over for 3 hours with maybe one friendly dot headed to the enemy base.

I'm thinking that the 3 hour people at a capped base upping over and over has to do with instant acton. This is not a game for people who have no patience. Takes awhile to fly from a further base to help and the juices are flowing. It's what I do after I get popped a few times, then I'll May be bring some heat from the closest base.  I like the fm2 women defending a capped base. Or a niki.
