New Plane\Role: Spy Hunter
« on: July 16, 2017, 08:13:43 AM »
Hello All,

I'd like to request a new plane\role.  The "Spy Hunter".  While those that use multiple accounts justify it that there were spys in WWII...so where "Spy Hunters" (or whatever name you choose).

This is a serious wish...but I dont expect those that game the game with spying to like it. The other 90% or so of us could have great fun with it.

Now we will not have the tools of the (WWII) day so I recommend using modern tech to fulfill the role just as the spys in this game do by owning a second computer or Virtual Machine (VM).

It is a sub game of intel gathering, i.e. finding players that exhibit the data points of a spy.  Some attributes might include:
  • Spending large amounts of time in at x\y vector.  A hanger for instance.
  • Correlating enme voice and text messages with that user and vector.
  • Correlating air and GV activity post spy communication intercepts that link the player to enme base take actions.

The above can be found via MAC address isolation, source IP subnet isolation, IP packet routing\filtering (see wireshark), text channel string matching, text string position correlation, voice signature recognition etc.  VERY doable.  etc. etc.  In short gathering ample intel on a player is a requirement to take action.  The game can actually be programmed to do this for us (once the mode is enabled or requested on a player\vector).

EDIT: If any folks think this cannot be done accurately contact me outside this thread and I'll detail more deeply for you.  I write books on this stuff.

Next enable "Spy Kill" mode, i.e. enable the ability to kill a friendly and not hurt yourself.  I'd say because this is such a rare action only be aloud to execute it once per tour or whatever makes sense. OR perhaps require the vote of n number of your country to execute the action.  Basically finding a balance to avoid gaming "Spy Kill Mode".

This is a working idea.  If there are going to be spies in this game we should have a real option to take them out.  Just as was the case in WWII.

Again, this is a working idea.  Open for RFC.

Thanks for considering this,

Slade  :salute

IT troubleshooting is a huge part of what I do.  If it was not fun I would not do it!  :)

I thought of one non-technical reason that could inhibit it.  If AH feel that those that pay for 2nd accounts, that use them in this way, are too significant a $$$ factor to lose.  On the other side of this of course is: how many left the game, in part, over this type of account use.  :old:

Maybe set it to a vote to have such a feature.  :aok

Almost all of this perceived 'account use' is just fantasy. It does happen, but it is much rarer than the paranoids think.
More often than not, it's the paranoids themselves who think they absolutely have to resort to all kinds of skulldugger.

AH is a lot like real life. :)

It may be your job somewhere else but it's not your job here. Any questions about player behavior should be addressed to HTC.

Consider how many new players may have been discouraged by rumors and witch hunts. You aren't helping.

Maybe patent worthy. Probably lots of volunteers to help validate the system. Could call it the Nutcracker Suite.
Leave that thing alone!

Slade, what's the best method for making a tin foil hat?

Should I take the time to measure my head and carefully fold the foil, or is a simple turban-style wrap sufficient?

I'm also worried about the over comfort, maybe I can just make a foil cover for a regular hat?

another thing. does the hat need to be tin foil or will aluminum foil perform as well?

There are no new players, there are only spies and shade accounts   :rofl

Thanks very much for your thoughtful posts on this so far.   :salute

BTW, I'm not paranoid. LOL!  Just sounds like something that would be fun.  Hunt down the spies for the fun of it.  Nothing more than that.

I can understand why spies, or those that support them, would need to take this out of context.  Thats expected.

You know, we are not as dumb as you think! It is a well known bit of tradecraft to try to deflect suspicion from yourself to others, for example by proposing a nerdy inflammatory system for going on a witch hunt instead of playing a game where you pretend to fly aeroplanes not computers. Of course your idea is going to be met with derision and rejected out of hand, but, BUT...you have now inoculated yourself from suspicion by your overwrought concern for catching spies....THEREFORE... YOU.....ARE....THE....SPY!!!!

Pies not kicks.

Wow.

If you are serious, here is my response to that.  I'll pay your account for 10 years if you can prove I am a spy.  Hard evidence that AH confirms is true.

Perhaps you meant that as a joke though.  Hard to see that sometimes.  If that is the case.  :salute

Where's the

Quote
Hard evidence that AH confirms is true

that the spying you claim is going on right now?

Assuming just for a moment that the tin-foil hat theory is true, and assuming all your packet-sniffing techno gobbledygook identified a person with two accounts, two different countries, and one sunk an out of the way CV belonging to the other... how do YOU prove it wasn't stumbling across a CV enroute to, say, strats, or another target?

Like someone taking the time to put that much effort into circumventing the game wouldn't soon find a way to circumvent the spy hunting.  :(
