I passed Initial Tower Cab training.

Passed the initial tower cab training in OKC at the MMAC and now I'm off to work at the Buchanan Field Airport in Concord CA Who lives in the bay area??? :rock

Wow Junky, that was fast, doesn't seem like all that long ago you were getting out of the army and considering ATC.  That was about 12 weeks or so wasn't it since you started?  Is it 29 or 30 lessons that tower/VFR is broken down into for the in class stuff with the FAA like it was/is for Transport Canada/Nav Canada?

So are you going to be working VFR/Towers primarily, or is it just a stop along the way to enroute/IFR control?  I'm not sure how the FAA does it in terms of if they have different streams for tower/center controllers like we did up here. 

Is CA/San Fran area going to be a long term posting, or is it for your on the job training until you get your official ticket, etc?  Do you get the option to request postings at all?

Anyhow, great job, congrats, I knew you would take to it and succeed.

If you run into a senior ATC named Bud Pangan, he's one of my close friends I've known since the 1980s. He is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

So selection of airports was based off class rank and the overall need for controllers at FAA controlled facilities. Concord is for sure a VFR airport but that kinda ups the traffic, others I graduated with who are going to more IFR airports have like 200 operations per day where Concord has 300 so it's closer to a level 8 but because of its low passenger count it is only a 5 with the possibility of getting bumped to a 6 soon. Training in OKC was About 6 weeks academic and 6 spent in actually controlling virtual airplanes in different simulators. Put of 18 in my class only 11 passed and I was 5th overall. I picked concord mainly because of its location to my family who lives in Lake Tahoe CA. They said I'll certify at the airport in 7-9 months and then I'll do a year or so more before I look for another airport, which will most likely be in the MD area because I want to end up in the Potomac TRACON.

WTG!!!

VFR at concord will be really fun and likely change your opinions on where you want to end up.

What about VFR at chino after concord?............where most of the cool warbirds are.
