That is a wise idea, most forecasts now shows a direct hit on florida. And Irma is at this point a lot stronger than Andrew...

I will most likely take the family to Denver for a week. Lived in Florida for 27 years, been through several hurricanes, but this one has me concerned.

I bailed out of FL just ahead of Hurricane Frances in 2004.  My apartment building on the intracoastal was destroyed and most folks there lost everything.  I was safely in Ohio when it hit and didn't even have to fight traffic to get out on I95 just a few days before the storm.

No shame from me on playing it safe.

Everybody I know down here is stupid and will likely wait until the winds are 50mph before they get the bright idea to "evacuate" and then have to ride out the hurricane on I95 in a traffic jam.

I'm telling them go fuel their cars and buy some water at the supermarket and maybe the sight of empty shelves, no fuel available, and people running around crazy will smack some reality into them.

So instead of a nice 6 day vacation out of state, they will wallow in despair with no power and unable to navigate the streets while their fat son eats all the food reserves before the eye even appears over them and wondering why his Iphone 7 has no reception and a dying battery and why burger king isn't open.

Of course, now that I've posted this, the storm will swerve away and all the lazy morons will act like they knew it all along.

Florida needs a good "cleansing" of stupid people. It certainly isn't the Florida I spent summers in during the 60's and 70's.

Don't screw around with a Cat 4-5 Hurricane.  If you can get out of the way, do it.

cool website.  Notice the lower co2 concentrations in china and the norther hemisphere.  CO2 is the limiting factor for growth given adequate sunshine and temperature.  The warmer earth gets, the more co2 life uses.  :x

GFS is moving the system back towards the gulf stream.  This is not necessarily good, landfall over cuba would diminish the storm, if the warm core goes between the bahamas and florida, that thing could wind up and slam the carolinas.  Looks like the storm will wedge between the bermuda high and the large canadian high coming down.  I say watch out miami to the outer banks.  :salute

My outfit asked for travel team volunteers this morning. I'm up for another trip. No details as yet, but plans are being prepped and resources studied. I haven't seen this level of "nerves" since Katrina and Rita.

Either way, it is going to an interesting few days.

One of the guys from my company is trapped in the Bahamas right now. All the airlines got out of dodge and cancelled all flights. All the hotels on the island are booked. He met up with a couple Navy dudes at the airport and they're going to have to ride it out. Hoping for the best.

The Sun gets hot, two strong  X-class flares over past hours, both emitted from sunspot facing the Earth; X-2 and second X-9, the strongest in decades. Here goes the power grid, HQ down, lights out soon.

The hurricane is located the area of absorption facing the Sun , i read something about this strong X-ray flux can affect the atmospheric conditions.  http://www.solarham.net/globald.htm

Princess Juliana airport seems to be almost totally destroyed.

The island of Barbuda is reported to be totally leveled, still very little contact w the island but reports says that death toll can reach 1000 (out of 1600 residents)
