352nd FG P-51D, John C. Meyer's "Petie 3rd"
« on: September 23, 2017, 02:50:45 PM »
Was cleaning out my screenshots folder and found these.  This is a skin for John C. Meyer's "Petie 3rd" I did when I was playing around with trying to get a satisfactory bare metal look on P-51Ds.  I don't think I've ever shown this one.  Not sure why but I especially like the look of the 352nd's blue nose scheme on bare metal.

After the P-51D slots filled up, I was still hoping for a time it might be considered as a replacement candidate for Mus51's orphaned 352nd FG skin shown below.

Nicely done Oboe. So much better than that orphaned skin.

+1

(Not to diminish anyone's work of course.)

The default maps are killing those orphaned skins.

While I never attempted to skin a plane, and I know it's not easy... that skin up top looks 100% better than bottom. Hopefully HTC can make a change to the skin list to improve the game's eye candy.

I wonder, if an orphaned skin is not picked up, what happens to it?  Does it get wiped or does it remain on a list for skinners to do something later? :headscratch:

Skuzzy has automated the orphaned skin process.  So the way it is now, one year after a skinner has closed his account, his skins are automatically assigned orphaned status.   I don't know of any time-limit window to adopt; I would guess under the current system the skin would remain orphaned indefinitely.  I don't think many skins have been adopted.

I asked him about this back on June 22:

Q.  What happens to an orphan skin that no one adopts?   Would continue to stay in game indefinitely, or would you remove it from the game, thus opening the slot for a completely new skin?

And his response was

On occasion I think about this, and after taking a few more Tylenol, I get back to work until what time I have to think about it again.

I do not have an answer yet.  Thank you for helping Tylenol increase their sales of product.

Very nice
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

The orphan process is going to be automated.  It is not done yet.

I had to go through all the skin records to make sure there was no personal information (email, game ID's....) in the information before progressing onto the work of getting the orphan and new skin page done.

I, finally, got the information all done (I hope), Friday.  Now I can get the new skin page done.  Also got a utility done for posting the new/update skins release done.

Baby steps, but it is coming together.

I think it's a damn fine skin and the other one (as much as I appreciate the effort in it, as well) should be respectfully retired. I'm not sure what it'll take to get this accomplished. Perhaps if Dale considered advertising revenue on Skuzzy's behalf. :D

That might disqualify the skin.  I think only Bayer flew in combat in WWII.
