A Fly Could be Heard Crawling on the Wall
« on: October 20, 2017, 10:14:04 PM »
Nice to see the numbers tonight.

Tried for only 4 out of 50+ in a basic mission. Nothing too taxing.

Still miss the old AH2 Bomber folks.

I don't complain in this fashion much, but..  yeah.

Rest in Peace AH2

I believe the problem tonight was FSO was in about to start and people didn't have time for a 10 sector flight. Also A5 had two enemy dar bars and A28 had one which leads to less people for a missions due to defense. Maybe try tomorrow and see if the outcome is the same.

I hate to say it but everything boils down to numbers, so maybe reach out to some of those old players and invite them back.

We are a dying breed. We are those people that embrace the history of enjoying long missions of boredom followed by a few minutes of excitement (or terror for our historical counterparts). I bet the average age of an Aces High player is much higher than any of the other flight sims on the market.

There is too much competition that is able to draw and maintain attention of the instant gratification generation. We can either adapt or perish.

The "adapt" part scares me, but the "perish" part even more so.   :(

I remember many, many missions where we were immersed in far more than just a few minutes of excitement. We were met with pretty stiff resistance and also chased across the flippin' map RTB....   Pretty intense and fun as hell.

EDIT:  Especially when the ammo and fuel got perilously low.. holes in our tanks.. guns shot out.. landing on fumes..  Great stuff!

Thunder, I saw your message but you said "Only 4 slots left... and needed good pilots who could flatten a target". It sounded like you did not want anybody joining that didn't know what they are doing, may have scared away some of the less experienced buff pilots.

No..  At issue really is consideration for the numbers, or lack thereof. It used to be that we could readily muster up 20-30 flights ourselves, or team up with the DHBG for example, and that style of combat and fighting proved to be epic.

These days, I am mindful that we only have just so many players on a side, and for most of these targets, a minimal compliment will do. It's not about competence with bombing. It's just consideration of the numbers.

I've been down with a chest cold for the past week or so, and that kind of affected my mood last night as well. My apologies.

sorry guy.  I eagerly await the day someone posts a mission in game.  wish i was there.  :(

till next time.

 :salute

I too miss the fun.  good old team play with ego stripped and a mission at hand.

if only hi tech could incorporate missions better.  do the leg work for us.  twenty sets of a.i. led by who joins,  maybe the a.i. horde would give comfort to the lemmings.  as a side effect the fighter dweebs could have more to shoot at.

meber that movie memphis belle? wouldnt it be cool if we could do that in a video game?  :x

Had 10 B-17 formations, escorted by 20+ P-47D-11s in FSO last night. Attacked by 109s and 190s in the historical setting of June 1943. Nice running fight over France, was a fun night overall.

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

It's been obvious missions don't happen very often anymore scheduled from the pickup mission editor function. I've been curious how base capture, group jabo runs and fighter sweeps still happen. Are they organic habit due to human nature, left over habit due to the large numbers of old vets, or has the process returned to casual cooperation with local text and VOX communication putting together initiatives? Squads are still a core community resource for organized groups doing things. And I suspect like my squad, are hesitant to tell anyone else what they are up to for an initiative. POTW ups as a group, we get followers to see what's at the other end of our trip because we like to break things as a group.

With our smaller numbers it's obvious everyone watches the map for indications of group activity to join. You can see this by watching the small delay in dots heading to a location with another delay, of a relative to our times, mass of dots suddenly heading that way. Other than squads who know how to work together, these loose uncoordinated initiatives end up with loose uncoordinated results. Mostly long stalled out base capture attempts. Do any 3 bomber pilots in this game know how to communicate flying down slices of the town to drop it in one pass anymore?

Players want to join in to groups already as a group dominating a space versus being the bleeding edge of the initiative I'm seeing these days. Makes organized missions a problem then. If POTW says they are going to break something on range, we get followers to help break the thing the moment our group lifts off and makes a darbar. Do squads need to step up and help create a habit that can be eventually turned into missions from the clipboard? It's a lot of work being a squad dedicated to sparkplugging activity like once was the norm. Right now no one wants to do something that will make them loose, accounts for all the straggling in after the perceived dominance of a target.

Thndregg, unfortunately the numbers are a BIG handicap, to those big, long missions. The time you posted mission was a big influence as to why no one joined. We,on BISH, were defending 5 different fields on 2 fronts. Think numbers were 56 Bish, 49 Knight and 63 Rook. We had 14 guys AFK in tower. That is spreading us way thin. Rooks were really rolling, Tunes was in the house, with every computer he had running 4 sets of Lancs plus alot of others along for the action. The lancs were low, and the fighters thick...was asking alot for some to give up on great action for a long mostly dull STRAT mission. Most folk, just arent geared up for that sort of game play. Me, personally, I live for nights with lots of low alt, aggressive players swarming all over. Its quick and fun, for several hours. I can Wirb with great action, or Fighter with great action and after 4 days of Mediocre action(at best) it really makes it difficult to pass that action up for a long flight.  It wasnt so much a case of no one wanting to help out as it was a, this is what we have been hoping for all week. I know you long for those big bomber missions of old, and nothing wrong with that. You may be able to get more numbers to join you in missions that are more of a "Base take" effort. I know even then numbers are lacking for joiners, but something quick, a low alt precision field shut down and WF mission. May not be as exciting as those big missions, but it could help to bridge that gap a bit?  Several squads like to run their squad night missions on big strat runs. I usually think at least once, when I see this.."Wish those bombers could run missions to help sack a base! With that many bombers, we could roll this map!" I know not every one fits in with the "Win THE WAR" crowd, but it could be a fun endeavor. I dont have these memories of Early Aces High, but what I have found in this game is something great, for me. I just hate seeing folk discouraged. Guess I am just so happy because I DONT remember how it was? I just didnt have to make AS MANY adjustments to my style of game play, to keep it enjoyable?
