stumbled across this YT vid
« on: November 12, 2017, 03:27:01 PM »
so I was poking about looking for AH videos with the most views on YT and came across this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Crg4j4j9VI

some German gamer that has 2million subscribers with near 150k views in 2 months since they uploaded it.

You have to watch it to have a giggle at their noobish responses to experiencing the game for the first time  :D but it is painfully clear that it highlights what I feel to be the biggest drawback we face in terms of getting new players from steam who will do exactly what these two have done and then not play again.  Vudu has done a good effort in trying to help the first timers with his videos but throw in a language barrier and thats them stumped.

Configuration, take offs, where to find action in Multiplayer, plane loadouts.  You see them attempt to read some of the instruction but still maybe after awhile of an audible warning for say GEARS down it might flash up a tip to say raise gears etc.  or an arrow pointing to the Gear lights.

I know we cant lead a horse to water or hold them by the hand every step of the way but ALOT of Germans/ Europeans have now seen that video and probably thought they will never play this game thanks to it.  How can we grow player numbers off peak if we cant get some sort of German/ insert language instructions?  Looking at Lusche!

Just be glad if you can't read all those comments thrashing this "crap looking, totally unrealistic game"...

After game install have an obvious checkbox in German (Deutsch) that maybe allows an NEW 200ish German language help  channel.  Then publicize this to our current community.  You would likely find a good number of German speaking veterans (again looks at Luche  )

Really?!
What kind of a guy checks out a WWII aviation game and the 1st plane he picks up is a KI67?! This is madness!!!  :O

We don't know that was the first plane he picked up - but we do know that is the plane he chose to show in the opening segment of his video.  There are a number of high quality models with excellent skins to use if you want to show AHIII in it's best light.  Unfortunately there are still a number of planes and/or skins available that can give a poor impression of AH also, if that's what your intent is.

there is no reason to still have AH1 airplane textures in game at this point.

that is a good point,  maybe it was some sort of underhanded sabotage from other games.   :noid

Zack just because we have brexit it does not mean we cant play cartoon airplanes nicely with one another.   :old:

I guess we need something like, SHOOT RED GUYS, NOT GREEN (if Killshooter detects hits) !  and  RAISE YOUR GEARS numbnuts (audible creak longer than >5seconds)!  YOU RAN OUT OF FUEL FOOL!!   to flash on the screen for new players only during a 2 week trial account.   Don't suppose it is feasible to reserve/default vox numbers to certain languages?

That would be a lot of work

even if it was one or 2 pages in a text file how to map controls, how to takeoff (spawn in)
general guidance for the Main arena, explaining flashing fields, dar bars, clipboard maps. etc

{snip}   Don't suppose it is feasible to reserve/default vox numbers to certain languages?

Maybe .... maybe not..... It was simple enough for HTC to add Help channel 6 (pretty sure it wasn't as simple as I make it seem) to text drop down, but it does get a good amount of proper usage.

Suggest to start with English Help drop down vox channel 6 (= 106), then Deutsch vox channel 7 (= 207), also Espanol vox channel 8 (=208).  Other channels that might help Francais, Russian, Japanese and Italian.

The Finns seem to already have it covered  :aok

it seems to me that if your marketing you game world wide concessions need to be made. Help page should be available in a number of languages. But that's a lot of work, sure it is but it is the price of doing business in other counties.

How about someone authors a basic guide of the game in English.  Not overly detailed but a couple of pages and then people like lusche can just google translate it into the other languages the best they can?    :D
