Which anti-virus would you have recommended?
« on: March 05, 2018, 11:03:55 AM »
They announced for this fresh anti-virus type A available late fall, but I didn't buy it. One might even say I saved my pennies there since it doesn't seem to protect from virus type B at all and not even from all variants of type A.

The firewalls I have are seemingly intact, they both were examined by an experienced official inspector a couple of years ago without any issues found.

I suspect social engineering has something to do with this infection, this kind of virus attacks don't come just out of the wild. Someone must have left this virus somewhere for me to pick unsuspectingly since I haven't been in an intimate contact with a questionable person or anything like that.

Good thing is I still have a couple of weeks to recover before our Spring Meeting!

Now for some hot drink and back to bed.

I use Bitdefender for many years. Never had an issue.

<edit> - chicken soup subscription is in my opinion a waste of time. While it does warm the internal operating systems and some childhood memories, it does little to improve recovery time, especially if you need to reboot.

My advice, wash the keyboards and mice, drink lots of fluids while operating your computer, and try not to do things that would make you tired, like look at a bluescreen smartphone, TV, or tablet 1-2 hours before bedtime.  And avoid alcohol (unfortunately) until the reboot is complete and the virus has exited the system.

It seems likely that neither webroot nor bitdefender will protect against the influenza virus, no matter how many updates and advances take place...

Hope you feel better soon Bizman.

Thanks for the input, guys!

One reason for posting this question was to test the media reading skills of the community, inspired by a recent theme in Science Illustrated. That's why this was posted here in the O'club instead of Hardware and Software as the first hint of the topic not being about computer viruses. On the hindsight I should have put this on a "wrong" forum just for more erroneous answers!

It seems I got a Bear, and based on Mike referring to Webroot which no one else had mentioned and Mister Fork having edited his post quite some time after his first input, I suspect I even might have got a piece of silverware for a while... Nothing to be embarrassed about, I've done both misreading and heavy editing several times.

Mister Fork, I must disagree with you on the subject of chicken soup. It's true it has no medical effect. However, it adds to the amount of fluid which is very important. It also is a little thicker than beverages so goes down a little slower, spreading the warmth longer and more evenly. And, if you like it a little more spicy so it makes your forehead sweat, it triggers the production of endorphins which are the best and safest pain killers. Plus, it is much more nutritive than a couple of herbal drops diluted in hot water!

The common stages of being ill: Fear for dying. Wish for dying. Fear for not dying. Fear for remaining half alive...

Thanks again, fearing for the revenge...
