best plane to bounce a 262

Curious to know what non-perk plane can handle the highest speed without falling apart.

A P-39 can get to about 590(yes 590!) in a dive from 15K to the deck.

Non- perked aircraft, please.

It holds together?  Either model?

Just an addendum to the original question:  the 262 would be on or near the deck.

I remember reading on the box for the plastic model that the P-47 broke the sound barrier.

I only tried it with a 39D, but yes, it held together just fine.

Yak9u goes pretty fast.

So does the RV8.

The best plane to bounce a 262 is the me163.

It takes planning but, when they are out and confident, you can hotpad one to the front lines and have your way.

190-A series can, together with F6F outdive a 262.
My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

I suppose It depends upon what alt the 262 is at and where you are. I'm at  high to extreme alts and use the Mk14 mostly. second the Mjug. and bounce deuces and 234s with a fair amount of success.  The 152 probably works well also

My question is why? To catch a 262 you gotta find him napping or engaged which you can do with any decently fast plabne.  Also if the 262 driver knows what hes doing/paying attention and has some altitude pad he can pretty easily defeat your initial bounce and run away.... its not just a max speed game.

I think a P51 is my favourite because it can handle higher compression speed that can be a problem for the p47. P51 also has range for longer hunt. I have had great fun in hunting 262-s. When 262 comes from enemy base and I am not in position to bounce I try to position myself between him and enemy base. Best to stay out of icon range observe the black dot. when 262 goes rtb try to cut him off. Sometimes it pays off to chase deeper into enemy territory because when a 262 is low on fuel he might go to land at a certain base, but needs some time to slow down for landing, that extra time might allow to cach up in a prop fighter. That is when extra fuel in clean configuration comes handy.

That is very good to know.  590 is some crazy speed.
Had an opportunity yesterday on a low 262 harassing planes right off base but my P-40 would have come apart.

I remember reading on the box for the plastic model that the P-47 broke the sound barrier.

I remember losing to Lancasters in a high speed dive because my Jug was creaking like mad.   That was at very high alt though.

190-A series can, together with F6F outdive a 262.

190 is probably a great option.  I have a tendency to lose wingtips in the F6F.  Something about that plane doesn't give the sensation of speed until you're way too fast.

Yak9u goes pretty fast.

At speed the 9U can lose control surfaces very quickly.

On the Axis side, IMO the 190-D9 catches it best, then the A model 190s, then the Ta-152.  The 152 doesn't dive like the others, but as with anything that can dive it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time to catch it and the guns are nice if you can get a shot on him.

P51 or any jug will do the job.  F4Us aren't terrible at it, but not as good as the P51 or P47s.

Personally my first choice would be a D9, then an M jug, then the P51, then any of the others.  Depending on your personal preferences, any of those 3 could be interchanged IMO.

Only in perfect conditions, but I've caught 262'a with my N1K. It dives like a monster, but will only be a threat screaming in from alt and CANNOT sustain any pursuit...
