Dampen auto heading control loop
« on: April 15, 2018, 12:59:07 AM »
My wish is to have the auto heading feedback control loop better dampened so that the heading of ships (and to a lessor extent) vehicles don't oscillate back and forth after a turn.  I can't for the life of me figure out a physics reason why ships, or vehicles, would do that in real life.

[Everybody recognizes that ships in AH do this back and forth oscillation after a heading change as they complain about it while trying to aim the guns, but if you pay attention you can see the vehicles do that to a lessor extent as well.  If you turn right and then stop commanding a turn the vehicle will slew back to the left, then a bit to the right, before taking a new heading that is left of your original desire.]

May need more integral in the PID.

If you're talking about dodging bombs, you have all the knowledge you need to drive the cv properly.

What you shouldn't do is multiple course changes in short succession or you end up making the sharply turning fleet into an easy target.

Course changes of more than 180 degrees will also make them an easy target.
