I got a 97' Ranger that simply will not stop running.  I fully expect it to make it to 300,000 miles and over the last 17 years, the only time Keith Richards has failed to get me from point A to point B was when 4th gear disintegrated whilst driving down the interstate.

Annual cost runs about $200 including insurance but that's inflated by a couple of seat belt tickets.

I HAD a '59 Austin Healy Bug Eye Sprite but being a teenager, I sold it
and bought a '67 Mustang 2+2 fastback with a 289 and dual carbs  :furious

I've had a lot of fun cars in the past (1982 280zx turbo, 1990 5.0 notchback, 2000 Corvette FRC, 2002 Corvette Z06, 2006 CTS-V, 2015 Mustang GT PP just to name a few of the them), Now we have young kids and they don't fit well into any of those (except the CTS-V) so now we just have 3 money pits. My wife's 2015 Jeep Wrangler 4 door, my 2013 Jeep Wrangler 4 door, and our 2015 Fleetwood Excursion 35E.

The Mustang/302 was the best bang for your buck, most envied small block performance car of all time.

Yeah but it couldn’t beat Old School Muscle.    People bag on the Road Runner these days don’t realize what that thing could do with those puny poly street tires back in its day...

That’s like my Buick Regal fleet (1991, 1992, 1995, and 1996).  My 1992 has 455,000 miles.   Those 3.8s last FOREVER.

While I had a 69 Road Runner and a 68 Mustang, the Road Runner was slightly faster, but the cost to get there was higher than for the Mustang.  Chevrolet is even cheaper.

As far as bang-for-the-buck goes, it is hard to beat a small block Ford/Mustang combo, in that class.  There are millions of Windsor blocks laying around all over the world.  Produced from 1961 to 2001 makes it easy to get parts for.

My current projects are a 64 Ranchero (not even close to being a restoration.  Full on custom) and a 65 Cobra replica, which I have been replacing more and more of what it came with.  Already got the custom IRS done.  Working on a new front suspension and tweaks to the frame to stiffen it (gotta love finite element analysis).  All the while driving a 2007 Mini Cooper.

The Wife's 62 Corvette is on the back burner, but I have been compiling parts for it.

Yep............it's mine..........Challenger Hellkitty.  Mopar only muscle since the mid 60s'.  65 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible, 4 Speed 383,  69 Roadrunner 383 4 speed, 70 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 Magnum 727 tranny, 1972 married 1972 Ford Maverick LOL,  2010 Dodge Challenger R/T 6 speed, 2012 SRT 6 Speed.  The R/T I ordered, the SRT off the show room floor. and now 2016 Challenger Hellcat 6 speed, 707 HP 650 ft/lbs torque driven only in excellent weather has 2400 miles on it (bought it brand new with 8 miles on the odometer.)  I didn't mention the 78 Trans AM and 79 Z28 I owned in the second sentence of this post.......they were dogs.  Completely boring.  Mopar my thing.  I however appreciate all makes and models.

That reminds me of another friend of mine.  His dad had a Mustang but he had a Ford F150 that he dropped a souped up Windsor in.  He built the motor himself and that thing would scream.   It looked like just some plain boring pickup truck until he would race people in their rice burner rockets or even Mustangs.

One night we were out getting a Whataburger in the Valley near Edinburgh and some punks decided to egg us.   I heard a THUMP THUMP and my buddy said, "I'm hit!" (We thought we had been shot at for a second.)   He realized it was two raw eggs and he whipped that truck around.   Those kids tried to run and he caught them in about five seconds.    We proceeded to follow them all over the Valley--the bug-eyed look on the face of the guy in the back seat was priceless--until their brakes started to catch on fire.   We decided to let them go at that point.

Ah, to be young and silly again.

I would love to see the explanation they gave their parents over those torched brakes.    :rofl

(Those sound like nice projects, BTW.   Very cool.)

Ugh.  If only the new Charger had followed this theme.   The new Challenger and Mustang are absolutely spot on updates.  Love them.   They kinda' remind me of those Super Deformed Japanese airplane toys only seriously implemented instead of being a caricature.

If I get a Challenger I'm getting one to match my Charger.   I bet they just scream.   :aok

I had my '98 trans-am. I didn't know it until I sold it but the motor was likely a mutant, built with a couple of vette parts the first few months of the switchover to the LS1 in the f-body cars.  During a few years of autox more than one other competitor said it seemed a bit faster than it *should* have been on nearly stock suspension.  After I sold it 11 years later, the kid who bought it put it on a dyno and it had about 30 more hp than it should have had, so something wasn't quite standard with the motor.  I sure hated to let that go.

I replaced it with a G8 GT (basically a 4-door firebird) and after the L76 motor died twice I put in a factory LS3 motor.  Moved to California so I had to return the intake plumbing to stock, but I got to keep the engine and trans tune so it runs pretty well.  Plus 420ish hp at the crank is "enough" for a daily driver sedan that fits 3 child car seats in the back.  For now, that is :)
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Forgot to mention.

When I am done with the Ranchero (785HP/660ft.lbs torque), it will be my new daily driver.  The Mini goes bye-bye.

Will it have Astroturf in the back?
