This. I have the same aircraft and we have two pilots in our squad that claim the simulation is precise enough to get you going. In fact, I bought the aircraft because so many of these planes are used in the islands I love so much. I am surprised it took six pages of posts before someone mentioned it.

Many of these FADEC planes are as easy to start as a car.    You go to START and they either start or they don't.

I hope you're not thinking RuAml.  He's an older guy who lives in AZ.

Ruaml told me he lived in Chicago

It's a friggin' turbine...engage the starter and turn the fuel on...simple.

If they wan't aircraft security equip everything with radials and all will be safe.  Probably eliminate a lot of rated pilots as well. :) Even with training they don't always start!!!

I went to ground school on the Q400 and I can't recall how to start it, but on the Embraer you just go to START and it either does or it doesn't.   The newer ones even protect you from hot and hung starts, including automatic dry motoring.   It's as close to idiot proof as it gets.

All the smoke and noise will alert someone that something is amiss.   LOL!!!    :rofl :aok

That kid sounded nutty to me.

really sad he wasn't able to land the plane.

I though the barrel roll was quite amateur.  the loop that bottomed out at 100ft, I call luck.  The negative g move, wow.

Video game pilot, I could believe that.

Sad situation. good thing nobody got hurt.  I was really hoping he would land the plane. to bad.

The point is that most pedestrians look at a modern cockpit and wouldn't know where to begin. It doesn't take much tutoring to get someone starting a plane, but beyond that they would probably end up with a broken gear before making the runway, or at least shearing a wing on an immoveable object. With just that little bit of experience and his knowledge of the airport he made it off the ground.

Yes once the ground pilot instructed him on controlling his RPM he was well on his way to being able to make a landing attempt. You know the kid knew how to drop landing gear as he raised them after taking off. He may or may not have known how to work flaps. That was next if he wanted to land and knowing safe speeds to actuate each..  He had a pilot helping on the ground and one trailing to help.

There used to be a guy named Rich (maybe not precisely Rich, like Rich** or something?) flying for Bish.

I have seen this posted by about 3 folks now. It is a distinct possibility that he was a member at one time.
