Photo Request - 2ACG P-51D No. 84
« on: August 18, 2018, 06:01:06 PM »
Anyone have a good photo of this airplane?

Seems only the Russians have anything on some of these old warriors any more...

Yes, but No. 84 is hard to find.   Just the one grainy photo.  :(

Nice. Thanks.  Does 84 look to be missing the black stripe on the wings?   The horizontal tail surfaces do not have it.

Yes.
Looks to be taped ready to be painted though.

Tape looks to be the same place and width for the stripe.

Do we have to use this aircraft if there is more appealing options?

#84 is listed for 1st squadron 2ACG in game same as this profile.

The Russian link lists it as 6th squadron?

This is wrong only two squadrons in this group.

Only 1st squadron plane that I can get enough detail on with some nose art is Little Indian.

Have not been able to identify the squadron of this one but at least it is completely painted.

That’s a Skuzzy call....  #88 would be a close match with only a spinner change—and we have no doubt about the stripes.

I like the vertical tail markings on this one but if I could find more photos of it or one of its mates...

The wing looks to have only the lightning bolts and no tail stripes.   Interesting....

It's ASTONISHING how many photos hide exactly what we are looking for.  Drop tanks.  Someone standing in front of the plane.   Or in this case the danged flaps being up.    :bhead :bhead :bhead :bhead :bhead :bhead :bhead

If the flaps were down then any black stripe would show clearly.

As it stands, I think this airplane is missing the stripe and has only the lightning bolts.

You talking about #24 Little Indian? If so its the only plane I have seen with these markings from this group so far.

Link with a few more colour photos.

I was referring to 84 and 88 with the ! on the tail.  Pretty common for that group--and a WWII oddity of sorts.   So I happen to like that and would prefer to find a plane with that on it if we could.  No. 24 is also a good subject though, and seems to be the most well-known.

Wow, lots of good photos in there.  Thanks!

OK figured this out now.

All black spinners are 1st squadron partial black spinners are 2nd squadron #88 is out of the hunt.

All black spinners is what we want.

#87 Gonzales is in the hunt.

Best choice hands down.
