Don't forget no ammo counters and no GPS. And all of that would be great! ENY will need some adjustments though because some aircraft did have nearly fully automatic engine management.

You’d have an arena with negative numbers if you implemented this stuff.   Concessions for the sake of gameplay are appropriate.

THIS "GAME" already exists. DCS...they do still have what you could call "GPS" navigation for WW2. GAWD, I would hate to see it with the tools of THEN "You mean, we have to know Math?  MOMMY!!!! I am lost!!!" They have done some NICE work in their WW2 plane sets though. Tweaks in their NEED FOR ENGINE management too sustain operation of engines. Especially in their Spit MK9...was hard,in the early days, to do ANY maneuver with slightest bit of vertical element...without blowing engine  The PONY is pretty SWEET now as well...UNLESS you like running WEP SO...MORAL of THIS STORY...Careful what you wish for

I am envious of nothing.   The 109 driver (or whatever)  envious of the Pony's unlimited WEP has spoken.   

Ten thousand hours of flight time says a keyboard is a poor substitute for real-world engine controls.  The system here is a fair compromise.

It is a gaming concession.    Perfectly reasonable and acceptable.   Your “advanced” Me-109 got its arse kicked by the “inferior” P-51 regardless.
