Have you tried sneezing and farting at the same time? Equal and opposite forces should cancel each other out
They cancel the motion of the center of mass. However, a sneeze and a fart apply torques on your body that act in the same direction and add up! If you sneeze and fart simultaneously you run the rist of flipping yourself around your center of mass and landing on your head.
Dont try this at home kids :old:

Reasons for not joining a mission:

1. No flavor - B17s with 110s and La7 escorts. What is that?!
I dont want maximum efficiency, give me flavor instead: SBDs with F4F escorts, BoB theme Spit1s Hurri1s Emils escorting 111s, Attack of the twins 38s/110s/mossies, a bunch of B-25 strafers, etc.

2. I fly with my squadron already - we do our thing, but LDs often used to support ET37 (aka earl) missions from outside. These days I rarely fly in the MA when no other LDs are online.

3. Too long a wait - I have precious little time to play and I will not waste it in the tower waiting for more people to join. Of course, if missions were the norm, wait times would be shorter.

4. Leader is an idiot - some people I do not want to follow.

Good point, I'll mix it up a bit here and there (like a classic CV mission?)  - Keep in mind I'm currently Rooks and I've not done a B17 + 110/La7 mission... I agree that our numbers don't support THAT silly of a mission. . .  Usually I try and keep them simple and themed inside the 56th FG (Heavy 51D's or P47's, straight up medium b17 and P51D bomber run, that sort of thing)

2. I fly with my squadron already - we do our thing, but LDs often used to support ET37 (aka earl) missions from outside. These days I rarely fly in the MA when no other LDs are online.
I LOVED his missions!

yeah, I get that. No fun riding bikes without friends. . .

4. Leader is an idiot - some people I do not want to follow.
I know that I'm a dink sometimes on 200, but ouch.   :devil  Seriously though, I hope I'm not excluding pilots because of my behaviour...

All good responses so far, I am seeing a bit of a theme of time as an issue; people jump in game and want to be IN the game not in a queue. I get that. Oh and apparently I'm a stinky Jug pilot.   :rofl I forget to wash my undercarriage sometimes...  :bolt:

KB,

You do good missions.  They've seemed doable when I've joined.  I'll join again.

To answer your question, if I'm inflight and not landing soon, I won't join.  If I tower sooner than I thought, or rtb is more attractive than getting ganged, I'm in.

If there's a fun furball going on, will I leave it for a mission?  That's a reputation/trust thing that comes with time.  Because I like your missions, it's a definite maybe, not a no.

I joined ET's and Artlaw's missions because they were well-planned and usually productive.  There's a chance any mission will be busted by the enemy.  So, build them and they will come.

Thanks gooss,

I'm finding that timing seems to be really key, catching players in-between their sorties, or better yet just after a base take/loss where players are dazed and confused as to what to do next.

I'll keep posting and tweaking to get the most out of Pickup Missions; but knowing what players are looking for and what KEEPS them from joining is what I'm trying to dig up.

ET37 missions were amazing and always fun, I'm going for shorter to medium missions as it keeps everyone engaged and not leaving their computer on wingman auto-pilot to do laundry, feed the animals, etc.

I've been trying to work on the timing such that lead-up time to a pickup mission allows players to either finish their current flight, get shot down, and/or jump into manned guns for some action before the mission launches.

What are the top three reasons you do NOT join a posted pickup mission?

When I wanted a mission, I had a few friends or a squad of like minded thinkers to whom I would present the idea.

Every time we posted a mission, we had people waiting.

Most every time we simply agreed through PM and voice chat, the mission succeeded.

That's really the only reason I didn't participate in "posted missions".

Now the epic monster bomber missions, I did participate.

I wonder what people want in a mission.

Do they want the best rides, rides that compliment each other,  do they want to see waypoints, do they like CAS, Tac Bomb, Fighter sweeps, CV hunting, port killing etc...

I prefer missions where the crates are birds of a feather. if you are gonna have Japanese AC then they all need to be Japanese AC, same goes for all plane sets.

I also prefer layered missions.

missions that have brother missions targeting the same sector in the AOR.

A mission running a fighter sweep to and around the target and maintaining air superiority over target and throughout the ingress and egress routes

A mission bombing the field, port or base

A GV mission if possible to smash the town and keep the AAA at bay

and finally troop mission that is covered by the fighter sweep mission.

all of the missions would come from different bases.

that to me is an ideal mission and if done properly would engage every member of the mission and the opposing force.

I don't disagree with your points, it's just hard enough to get people into ANY kind of mission let alone 2-4 concurrently running staggered missions.

Seems like flippz said, timing is everything. Nobody wants to "waste time" in game, and to bail out to join other players seems to be almost taboo.  :uhoh

I agree, perhaps calling a mission 30 minutes in advance would help with the "already in a fight" types.

I don't mind sitting and plotting waypoints and what not for missions. it can be fun at times.

FBBob is pretty good at organizing missions. He seems to think of every detail. He organized a gv mission with M-18's and M-3's awhile back.
We drove our gv's for about 25 minutes. We had a couple rest spots along the way to make sure everyone caught up.
We  took a V base that was not connected by any gv spawns and was next to their strats. It worked pretty good.
The base was completely down (all guns, vh, fighter hangar) before they could put out an alert. This was before we had gv dar. The mission was a complete surprise to the Bishops who are usually the best at base defending in AH.

There is another guy that is really good at missions, but I'm am scratching my head......I just cannot remember
his call sign at the moment. Allot of these guys are on more in the winter time. I think work
is probably the biggest factor.

The problem with posting mission is that every player on your country can see them.

That's why so many missions are busted.
