Thanks!  Possibly a hydraulic issue resulting in no wheel brakes.  Most modern fighters have a tail hook for emergency landing issues.

This article describes it a bit better, I think:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3389880/Dramatic-moment-USAF-F-15-fighter-sends-sparks-flying-tailhook-hits-tarmac-emergency-landing-Suffolk-airbase.html

"The F15 could be seen approaching RAF Lakenheath on Thursday morning with the metal brake - used to bring it to a sudden halt when landing on an aircraft carrier - jutting out from beneath its rear engines."

I always thought the 15s should be carrier-borne, but no, the Navy wanted 14s instead.

Good to know.

Fake news, be sure. Well inaccurate at least. So typical of the media.

It all about the drama, especially when there really isn’t any there.

Seems they are standard on F-15 for emergency landings on CV's.

Having worked on F-15 C,D and E models, I can attest that the arresting hook has always been a ground safety issue and a pain the the butt.

It is for the emergency or aressting barrier landings I don't think carriers were in mind. They are even a much different style hook and probably wouldn't be a good idea to use to land on a carriers, especially since the gear on an airforce jet would break under the stress of a carrier landing.  One of the main uses is for engine test.

Add the F-104 which had a tail hook.

Seems to me that the FB-111s at Plattsburgh, NY (1972-ish) were supposed to be modified to have those.  Supposed to be very handy if your hydraulics (or whatever they use to operate brakes these days) are toast.
