Must have been brutal on the allies, not having enough turkeys to shoot at. Maybe enable formations next week so they can feel a sense of participation?

Well...the FSO logs for last night's frame 1, are completely fubared for both sides....

Was a fun night until the dots turned out to be 40+ F6Fs and FM2s with JG11 in ZEROS. First pass got 2 fuel leaks and blood on the windshield. Tried to break away until I came to and saw my wingman smoking with 2 on his tail. Broke over and peppered one then he side slipped and we collided. Night over at the 40 minute mark. Have I ever told you how much I dislike PTO set ups?   :rofl

This is not a slam against the FSO staff, just my point of view from flying the Ki-43 last night.

Not only was Axis outnumbered by 39%.  Our points rely on hitting a moving target, that we have to scout for, where as the Allies get to hit a stationary target with known location.  Same 2000lb explosive damage required for both, yet the TF ships are smaller than the hangers (with exception of CV).  Even with ack turned down there are more AA guns in the TF than on the field.

Additionally the Ki-43 dive bomber substitution doesn't work well.  The Ki-43 builds up speed in a dive, shedding control surfaces (not a positive trait for a dive bomber).  The only way to prevent the speed build up with the Ki-43 is by cross-controlling in the dive which really complicates the bomb accuracy.  Outside of maneuverability, the Japanese aircraft are outclassed in just about every way.  With these kind of conditions, surviving less than an hour into the FSO isn't surprising.  Perhaps that helps explain the low Axis turnout.

That was really painful from the torp bomber view.

I know that not every FSO will be perfectly balanced, etc, but I would have assumed that there was a chance to do something other than fly for 45 minutes to get "spotted" by one of the many CV groups in the target area and quickly annihilated. Not shot down, ANNIHILATED.

Worst things I've heard in FSO...

"OK, so we are in torpedo bombers, the jap kind... We're going to just slow this giant bill-board down so our tail gunners can troll for fish before we drop this torpedo"

"don't worry, we'll burn up before we hit the water"

"1000 perk points to the guy that actually gets there torp into the water"

"Ok, well might as well go AFK, we will be on this heading for 30 minutes"  <- why even bother, if I wanted an old guy chat simulator, I'd goto the coffee shop in a small farming town.

"Need a gunner, no I'm dead too"

I dunno gents, made point of joining FSO that night and totally regretted wasting my time.  <S> to the allies for patiently waiting for the whack-an-AH-subscriber-mini-game event to start! Must have been horrible having to wait so long to slaughter the not-so-interested-axis.

 :devil

*Change the rules; axis should be able to hit ANY CV group and it counts... Otherwise, just give the rest to allies and call off the whole thing.

KB, in all fairness I have no idea if that first group of ships was a viable target. All I knew was that they weren’t in the sector I understood the target was supposed to be. I didn’t want to waste our attack run on a target that wasn’t viable so I made the call to keep going. Nor were we required to carry torpedos. I made that call to mix it up a bit. I don’t think the results would’ve been any different if we had altitude or the southern fleet warned of our approach.

FSO is always a gamble. Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes your the bug. Unfortunately te Pacific setups usually lean heavily in favor of the Japanese being bugs.

I think that the Axis/IJN did a great job considering this FSO event is based on the Great Marianas Turkey shoot, where y'all the axis did far more with far less than how it happened in real life...

I believe that is very important to appreciate, to understand just how much worse it was for the IJN in the WWII battle engagements that this month's FSO event is based on...

Yeah, except that this is a game. We use history as the framework of the event, but if balance is off to where one side is predetermined to get slaughtered, then the event is a failure.

I don't think you are understanding my post....

I was trying to tell y'all flying Axis this FSO event, that y'all did a pretty good job for what y'all had to work with in Frame 1

Unfortunately, the actual attendance numbers are a problem this month and it is impossible to play a balanced game when the Allies have 20 more guys.

A 50/50 may even be inadequate given the tasks at hand for the Axis, but it's not possible to tell because the attendance is so messed up.

It's not the first time this has happened, maybe we need to nominate a couple of hot swap squads?
