Did one of the last updates change some aircraft views?
« on: February 25, 2019, 03:12:50 PM »
Last night I noticed that the views from the F4UD were not the views I remember. It seemed more cramped and forward right was now solid canopy frame. Straight up and back maybe straight up has a weird gray band across it. I cannot tell for sure if other planes have changed. It reminds me of when the FOV was changed and the views all seemed to be looking down at the panel, pressing home and than F10 for every aircraft fixed that. Did something similar happen recently?

Also can someone explain what the difference between the views that looked down and the home views is/was? Is it just sinking the pilot in the seat or is the point of view tilted?

I noticed that the head positions in the F6F had all been reset to default.  (The F6F was the first plane I used after the update.)  Other planes seemed to be still set to my custom positions.

AH3 came out with a new default setting for views. It has a smaller field of view and has a bit of a head down to the normal forward view to be able to see the gauges better.

I have never had my view change other than that, but have some times had views that I have changed returned to default. Hitting "home" key and then F10 sets the view to default.... that head down view, but it does make it easy to clear a messed up view and start fresh.

The bounds were made bigger, and the default view point moved forward about 3 inches.

have you flown the the f4s in vr?  at the shop (nonvr) my f4 views are fine.  but the home (vr) views its like I am smashed into the dash.  if I try to move back and up then the gun sight is un seeable or useable.  also at home no matter what I can not see around the "overhead" bill and makes fighting in it horrible.  maybe just mine but its very weird feeling

For the rear views in VR for the F4u1a I use the 6 key view then lean around the seat.  The trick is to remember that the views are reversed to what you expect.  So leaning right, is actually looking down the left side of the plane.    :D
We have clearance, Clarence. Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?

Looking back isn’t the biggest issue. Imagine being 7ft tall and getting in a mini truck that’s been lowered. Seems I am smooshed to the front instrument panel and when I look up I can’t see around the bill. When I try adjusting the seat position it moves to the pipr so I can’t see it

The obvious question:

Why did you change the view? Was there some evidence provided that proved the existing settings were incorrect?

You can move your default view point to where ever you wish. I.E. Back to how it used to be.

It was moved because the view point was set right at the head rest and not about 3-4" forward where you view point would really be. Having it this far back created issues with the animated pilot since it's view point(between it's eyes) is tracked to the current viewing point.

I use a hat view to look back in VR. I set my rear view head position so it's far away from the headrest. This makes it easy to look around the headrest and also to look back/up.  My side views are forward from default so looking to the side with the hat and looking up with VR also works. You can also set your up view head position to minimize the F4U sunshade.

In RL you didn't have hat views but you also weren't flying wearing a scuba mask.

I do somethings very similar.  And also in RL the pilots were fit young guys, and didn't include a bunch of arthritic old codgers......   :old:
