You could always try to get Hitech to run the generic AH3 plane proximity icon for a few days. Asking for this would probably work versus deciding you don't like it and want only a dot. It's already there and just an arena config check box for him to execute. If you think about the proximity DAR and sneaking around in bombers. Most of the time if you are sneaking to a strat, no one will be near enough to light you up. And when they are, if you kill them, did you not expect they may have talked to friends anyway to give exact info about your bombers while you were lit up? Even with radar down on a field, a single bomber is so large, fighters see it coming outside of icon range which is also dot proximity range for the clip board map. With field Radar up, they see you coming for 18 miles. Radar down, they can see your big ugly dot at about 10,000yds, 4,000yds before your icon shows up and you show up on proximity. If it's sneaking around and being all strategical and stuff to steal feilds and not get seen, parish the thought anyone wants the proximity DAR gone to run from fights. Having the real radar set back to pre 65ft would generate more base assaults by people who don't want to fight making them be at one spot low for you to up and clobber with all those uber ACM skills.
One sector is 25x25miles or 625sq miles of area. In FSO whole squadrons of fighters miss huge groups of bombers, and we send out scouts while 12 guys are straining their eyes over 360 to see 30 bombers packed together with escorts. Even with the scouts and being in the same sector, half the time we miss the bombers and escorts. In the MA hunting multiple bomber box missions to the strats still takes sending out scouts and half the time the bombers get past many of the scouts. Eventually we find the bombers becasue we bring the fuel to stay at it. But, when they are found, it's due to the same skill sets employed before proximity dar. And back before proximity dar the player who found the bombers would shadow them acting as a proximity dar lite up for the rest of us to home in on. The first tracking clue was the sector red bar, while proximity is nice, the bombers were still screwed before proximity if players were determined to find the bombers. The sector bar gives away your bomber anyway and the fighter still has to get to 10,000yds to see a large black dot to key off of. Nothing really changed other than at 6,000yds proximity showed your ugly buff to the whole world while you and the fighter had at it. Kill the fighter and you are back to sneaking around with only that red sector block signaling you are somewhere inside of a 625aq mile area just like the old days unless you goof and fly into a ground based radar ring.
I thought proximity was a Hitech joke so the ch200 resident chest beaters could have rageasims calling people out for running away from 12 on 1 fights. Or rageasiming about 12 on them......
