Windows 10 won't sleep with joystick plugged in. Any solutions?
« on: January 28, 2020, 03:04:59 AM »
I can't get Windows 10 to sleep if I have a joystick (CH) plugged in.  I don't want to be plugging and unplugging my joystick and pedals all the time -- I'll just manually sleep the damned thing if I can't find another solution.

It will sleep if I have it unplugged.

I have already tried several things, such as disabling wake timers (or whatever it is specifically called) for USB, and as an outside chance installing the latest nVidia graphics-card drivers, resetting the power plan to a default (balanced), examining the output of the "powercfg" command, running the power troubleshooter that is part of Windows.

Under Windows 7, the computer would sleep no problem.

I haven't found any chipset drivers later than the ones I have.  I might keep looking

In Device Manager you will want to look for that specific Root Hub for the device in question, click the Power Management tab and then check the box that says, "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power." That should take care of it, but there are always other possibilities.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

In the control panel/power options/change plan settings, look at USB selective suspend settings. If it's disabled try enabling it.

Are you set for sleep or hybrid sleep?

Those are already all enabled.

USB selective suspend is enabled.

I've got it set for allow hybrid sleep, but not allow hibernate.  (Same as I had set for Windows 7.)

Also, wake timers are disabled.

Direct to PC or via powered hub?

If one or the other, change it and see if it makes a difference to eliminate all possibilities.

It's via powered hub.  I want my joystick and pedals into a powered hub, not direct into PC, though.

I don't have it installed.  I hate that app.  I do custom install and don't install that when I put in new nVidia drivers.

Is your stick's properties set to allow it to wake the computer?

As far as I know, my CH stick and pedals don't have any properties that I can set.  They are just HID devices in the Device Manager.  I have never installed any drivers or CH software for them.
