Not feasible unless you want drastic cuts to wages state side.

Its just not economical to try to compete against foreign labor for cheap toejam like injection molding and other thermoplastics, or direct manual labor.

The US economy, while robust, isn't large enough to compete with foreign economies with an isolationist model. Trying to do so would just cripple us.

Rather than worrying about keeping low skill manufacturing jobs, it would be smarter to ensure secondary and tertiary sources from friendly nations, hardening supply lines, and expanding automated, technical and high skill production suck as electronics, microchips, armor plate, etc that will become scarce from foreign markets in time of war.




Re corona virus: its a slightly more virulent flu with a longer incubation period, and that's about it. My brother works in a genetics and neurology lab and broadly speaking nobody in the scientific community is particularly worried.


CDC officials are concerned not because of a high risk of societal collapse, etc, but because our Healthcare system is so expensive that mass hospitalization even with excellent prognosis and low mortality would be severely damaging to the US economy, and greatly increase the financial strain on low income populations and those at high risk of complications (where extended hospitalization and treatment may be necessary).

It won't collapse the economy, but it sure as hell could send us into another depression.

Spanish flu killed 50 to 100 million.  What if it’s not nearly that bad. Let’s say 30 million.
With the current economic expansion very very long in the tooth, what would be the economic knock on effects of 30 million dead in a massive disruption of the worlds economic system?
With the world central banks carrying massive debt and no ammunition left to fight a major downturn?

It could be the perfect storm of Black Swans.
