He 111H of 4./Kg 53 in the winter of 1942-43. This unit was attached to Army Group Center during the Eastern Front campaign and operated from bases in Belarus and Western Russia, mainly in the area of Smolensk. The flew the He 111 for the entire duration of the war.
This aircraft features a fairly uniform whitewash in a flat white on the fuselage and upper wings. The prop spinners are painted with a brighter white as a squadron identifier.
