Oh, the horror.  :D

Did any of them feature Corsairs, as well?

That would probably cause traumatic convulsions.  :old:

Ketsu Go had them. That was the only fun-ish frame - when my squad got to fight Corsairs with Zeke's.

I'm thinking of starting a new thread that talks about scenarios and involves opinions on 'fun', 'fair', 'balance' and 'score fixation.' That and the community (or part of) electing to not play in some of them because of their perception of such. I'm sure that I'd have way too much to say to keep talking about it in FTJR's thread which merely involved a question about where an airfield was likely located.  :old: :salute

Yeah, events with the B-29 tend to be a little lop-sided for the Pacific since we do not have any IJA or IJN aircraft that can adequately challenge the B-29.  That J2M looking like she'd be a nice addition. :)

Only if yoiu want to, I have no problems with the direction of the discussion since you've answered my question.

Speed, guns, Japanese fighters at 25K+.
Arenas can be set up with Multiple Wind Layers..to make it historical...cant they? As I understand it, B-29s had issues with accuracy because of Wind Layers? How hard would it be to increase the Drone counts...per Formations? Like 6 for 1 "Commander" or more? IMHO, that would GREATLY RAMP UP he fun factor(especially  with the lower participant numbers)! It would prolong the Attack/Defending of Bombers anyway! Bomber #s always out numbered Defenders/Attackers..as I understand History? Low participation and 2 passes on the Bombers..sort of Anti-Climactic! More targets=more opportunities for FUN! WIND LAYERS would make them more susceptible to Defending Japs(if lower altitudes were called for, because of winds?)? Sure...still would have 25k Zekes, but it would affect them as well. Just "spit balling" :uhoh "Close only counts for...Horse Shoes, Hand Grenades and Nuclear Weapons", after all! My .02c

I could swear the KI43 shot down a few B29s.

I think most of the kills made by the 43 were ramming attacks. :headscratch:  Either way, I also think they were modified so they could intercept the B-29's and/or it was during a time when the B-29's were flying low for better accuracy. :headscratch:

Excellent point (though the lower 29s were also making night bombings). In spite of the latter, B-29s in scenarios could be given a ceiling of 20k (which makes the comparison charts very valid). In spite of some in the community being fervently adverse to AI bomber formations in scenarios (like in Fortress Europe), B-29s could have the majority of their aircraft programmed to stick to an altitude of 20k and even a speed below full max (disallowing higher alts and speed 'by mistake'). Say 12 formations of AI and four to six formations of player controlled that form up with the AIs. As has been mentioned, AI use does not mean those planes automatically have laser gun ability or pickle barrel bomb ability, both being adjustible.

Would/could players in later model Japanese interceptors be able to, well, intercept? Guess that would depend on the players because I don't see the aircraft preventing such.

If the altitude is lowered on the 29's, then more options become available.  You could go one further and only have single B-29's.  The problem then becomes finding enough pilots to make it viable.  Also, from what I understand the Ki-84 is actually not a bad plane at that altitude (20k-ish)? :headscratch:  But the 43 will probably still struggle a bit.  I haven't flown her very much so I cannot say for sure. :o  I've only ever flown the N1K1 like 10 times, ever.  I cannot say what she's capable of at any altitude (other than being on fire, since that is how almost all of my sorties ended in her :noid).  Ultimately it's the speed of the 29 that will prove a challenge as well.  Even at cruise she still moves fairly quick.

Too slow and too low will kinda ruin the event.  But obviously we do not have a Japanese plane that can adequately intercept the B-29 flying at her historical altitude and speeds.  It's like the time when A6M's were tasked with intercepting B-17's during an FSO I was apart of years ago.  We only have the G's and even though the 17's were singles, they simply outran the A6M's.  I don't think the group tasked with intercepting them ever engaged them or their escort. :headscratch:

Definitely a delicate balancing act when it comes to the B-29. :uhoh
