VKB T-Link setup?
« on: October 27, 2020, 11:01:41 AM »
I have been using the VKB Rudder pedals for a few years but have never set them up with the T-link software for toe brakes.

Has anyone (Drano ?) set them up and how well does it work?

I also use the MCG Pro stick which has the "brake lever" which I have never used.

Thanks in advance for any input...Bix.

I have Crosswinds pedals so wouldn't know exactly how T-link works. I think it's a way that switches the axii on the pedals to brakes when the brake lever on the stick is pulled back.

I use the brake lever for things. In AH you know you can map the ranges of an axis to a command? There's three areas of the range that can be assigned. I use the brake lever on the stick for dive brakes. It's easy to do in map controllers in AH. You can do the same thing in the VKB software but it's a bit more involved. I did that to map the same thing for the drive brake in IL2.

I have the t link software working fine in DCS as the virtual toe brake.  I'm sure AH will work the same way just haven't had the time to set it up here yet.

Map a button on the software so when pressed it tells the game to engage the virtual axis its something like Joy RX/ RY to be mapped in game (for planes that have Left and right brakes).

What it does is engage wheel brakes when pressed, then when your foot pushes on the rudder bar it drops that wheel brake axis to 0% rather than 100%  so I can just press and hold the mapped hotas button, feet down on left pedal and I get the plane going the way I would with toe brakes.  You still have rudder authority at all times just when you press the brake button it puts whatever side your foot is applying brake down.  You may have to invert it if it doesnt go the way you want it too.

your only really using it when coming to a stop, taxiing or spinning on the spot.   In DCS it can get a bit tricky as the spitfire doesnt have differential toe brakes so you just have to tap the button more frequently to not tip the nose.   I dont think AH models that in the spitfire here.

Sorry if the explanation isn't that clear when learning / reading how to do it I think everyone just works it out and comes up with a different answer.  All I know is that it works fine and your not at all losing out by not having toe brakes.    :aok

The software needs to be running just minimize it and click it to green in your toolbar.

   Thanks for the responses.

I downloaded the pdf manual for the t-link software and after reading it I'm a little unsure just yet. I will reread it today and maybe it will sink into this old brain!

I'm just flying in AH III and IL-2 lately. DCS sometimes. Interesting to me is the differences in the flight model in all three. Enjoy them all though.

              Thanks again,   Bixby.

Keep in mind their manuals, while extensive, are translated into English but generally non English speakers. This makes what isn't exactly easy reading that much harder. Might have to read thru things a couple of times to get at exactly what it says.
