Nuclear stress test
« on: December 16, 2020, 03:59:37 PM »
Anyone had one?

Mine is schedule for tomorrow

Had a echocardiogram done today

Only stress test I had was stopped after less than 10 minutes right before they rushed me upstairs on a Sunday and put 2 stents in.

Cardiology said the widow maker and the other blockage could not wait until Monday

That was about 32 months ago

Thanks for any experiences

Have not been down that road, though I do hope you don't encounter any issues.  <S>

Yes. They have the option of using an injection to induce the stress. Didn't care much for either method.

My wife had one done.........cardiologist used it to point out in more detail the many areas of concern within her heart, and enable him to intervene on the one(s) that needed the most urgent attention.  Also said it highlights the issues that may go undetected in the microvasculature(sp?) of the heart......basically the tiny microscopic vessels that may be occluded or close to that........personally, I place little value in the stress tests normally used.  She had one that showed everything was fine, then 3 weeks later had a heart attack and required quintuple bypass surgery for 8 occlusions (including the widow maker).
That was in 2014, and since that time she's had to undergo 14 heart caths with 6 stents placed.
Normal stress tests never show anything, only the nuclear stress test helped zero them in on what was causing her symptoms and issues.

EddieK: a standard stress test looks for arrhythmia(s), BP tolerance and physical tolerance - i.e. things like dyspnea, angina...They’re not perfect at detecting everything but they are incredibly useful for those things.

His procedure is different and a lot more targeted at:

The results of a nuclear stress test can help:

Determine how well your heart is pumping
Determine the proper treatment for coronary heart disease
Diagnose coronary artery disease
See whether your heart is too large

I’ve seen them done and had patients postoperative after the test indicated a surgical procedure.

I’ve had several stress tests myself, but not a nuclear. BP, arrhythmia & CAD run in my family...

Best thing you can do right now is do what you do to relax and not worry about what is going to happen. It’s a very safe procedure and once you and your doctor know the results then go from there.

If you want to PM please do. If I may ask what lead to having the ECG done if anything in particular?

Will say prayers for you it all goes well!

Eagler, check PM

Just got off treadmill waiting for them to take the after images

I only had to get my heart rate up to 135 which was not to hard as I have been pushing it to over 160 on my home treadmill during my afternoon workouts.

Doc will review it all next week with me and the wife

Thanks for the kind words and support!

Happy to hear the nurse and tech looking at the imaging during the procedure didn’t see anything alarming where they felt compelled to notify the Dr immediately and/or send you to the hospital.
