Dune
« on: September 23, 2021, 02:24:23 PM »
Man I hope they don't stuff this one.

The book was life changing for me at 15 yo.  The 1984 movie was utter filth.  The SciFi channel mini-series was low budget, but not too bad considering.
I'm hoping this is the version of the movie the book deserves.

Weird that the Chinese get the better trailer.
It's probably because it's opening abroad before it opens in the US.
To build up buzz I guess?

Uhhg.  I signed up for HBOMax to watch it on streaming release.  I thought the pandemic would be over by now.  I just don't  feel like standing in packed lines and sitting shoulder to shoulder for 3hours  in a packed theater with sweating, shivering, coughing infected.  Fricken Zombies.  Having to wear a mask for 3 hours...glasses fogging up.  Ick.

I'll settle for the streaming release.  In a couple of months after everyone has seen it, I might go see it again at an IMax if I can pick a low traffic time.

The Chinese get a better trailer because they paid for the film to be made.
They also paid for the Midway film.

You're starting to sound like Eagler.

Just as long as they don't slip Woody Harrelson in anywhere.

I will watch it in the theatre on Wednesday.  Won't have to wear a mask when sitting in my seat, because the theatre will not be packed but has checkerboard seating with two empty seats between us and the next guests and everybody will be either fully vaccinated (I am) or has to present a recent, official  covid test result. There will be no packed lines either.

Yes, well, I live in Texas.

Let us know what you think of the movie.  Have you read the book?

I thought a Japanese company did Midway? I actually mostly liked Midway because it was action packed and not a snoozer love story. I do have a few criticisms about it though.

I actually do want to see Dune on the big screen. I didn't read the books or anything, but it looks like a good big screen movie.

Really?  I'd think the Japanese would prefer to forget about Midway.

I had to look it up, guess I mistaked it for Mortal Combat. A Chinese company did help fund the movie but was mostly done by a German-American company funny enough. Not a major hollywood producer which is why it didn't have a bunch of crap in it, imo.

That La Mans 66 was a very good film :old:

The fact that the line in the film “It was not Roosevelt who beat Hitler its was Ford” was hilarious :rofl

Henry Ford was awarded a medal by Adolf Hitler before the war for his support for the Nazi party. (Henry Ford was an evil individual)

I watch films for what they are entertaining nonsense.

Fantastic film, best Sci Fi film I've seen in ....years.  Might be the best SciFi film I've seen ever.

I'd run out of superlatives trying to describe all the themes, beats, etc that I love about this film.  The vehicles/propulsion/etc are exceptionally well done as well.

If you're able, go see it in Imax - I plan to once it's available on Imax in my area, as I've seen a poorer copy, and by all accounts the sound/images in Imax make this truly great film something spectacular.
