Bf 109E-3 flown by Walter Blume of 7./Jg 26 in the summer of 1940. This 109E was photographed in color at III/Jg 26's base at Marquise, France. The paint work suggests it was repainted from the early war green scheme with a paler blue than the standard RLM 65 on the underside and fuselage sides. This color may have been an experiment with what would later be standard RLM 76 light blue. The upper surfaces were painted in 1940 standard RLM 71 olive green and RLM 02 gray, but the wing pattern is non-standard. Wing tips and rudder top are painted with RLM 04 yellow as an early attempt of IFF. Fuselage and lower wing crosses are in their early sizes and placement. 4 victory marks are painted on the rudder; Blume would add his 5th with a victory on August 15th, 1940.
