Essentially means in essence. Another synonym would be virtually or centrally. Basically, it means almost. So what Spikes said was "There are some countries that are almost all renewable energy." 99%, and 80% arguably, could be classified as "essentially all renewable."

To your point, you are correct. No country is "currently all renewables." It should be stated that no one has claimed that as of yet.

This topic brings a great quote from a former president to mind. "I know windmills very much."

None of which changes my point. A few countries have sufficient renewable energy. That says nothing about the ability of other countries to subsist on renewables.

Not sure why both oil and solar/wind can't exist simultaneously

One should compliment the other while tech, civilization and its needs evolves

It's the destruction of oil before a viable total replacement is available is what's killing us

Mean ole oil...

Nobody is 'destroying oil.' I don't even think there's s large movement for that.  :)

did you know electric cars have been around longer that gas powered cars?

non electricity or oil powered mills even longer.

even bullets were redesign to cause less damage to the environment.

What I've learned over years....  Whenever some says,  "no one is sayin blah blah" or "no one is doing blah blah", someone most certainly IS saying or doing blah blah.

So no countries are currently all renewables, got it.  Norway, where I'm from, is closest because it has natural water power. That won't work everywhere.  Iceland is also blessed with enough geothermal for a small country. Norway always had hydro power, it's not a new green thing. They also have a lot of money because they pump and sell so much oil and gas.
It'll never work because there is too much money going to congress from the fossil fuel industry.

Wilbur Wright once said "Not within a thousand years will man ever fly”, and two years later they did. All it takes is the will to make it happen.

We're looking for that here. Wife's workplace is less than two miles from our door.  :)

Norway has a tiny population of 5 mil that burn wood for heat. I guess you could consider wood  a renewable energy source. But it’s not really any better for the atmosphere than burning hydrocarbons. They also don’t need ac..yet

Lots of money going the other way as well, thru subsidies.

As far as supplying sufficient energy that's exactly correct. Solar and wind by their nature provide insufficient supply.

Solar and wind power is a waste of resources. Nukes, oil, and coal, is the way to go.  There is no evidence to support a need for green energy.
