I'm still not clear on what the differences between single and double action. I'm thinking that single action is that you just pull the trigger? Double action is that you can cock t if you want, or pull the trigger in one action?

T'other way around, it refers to the functionality of the trigger. Single action only releases the sear allowing the hammer to fall and strike like in the old cowboy movies. With double action the trigger also moves the hammer back and rotates the cylinder to align a new (hopefully loaded) chamber and also releases the sear. Some revolvers have shrouded hammers to ease draw from concealement and then you can consider them only double-action. That might be preferable for a beginner because there's less to think about and although the trigger pull is heavier than single action, it is the same for each shot.

There were some self-cocking revolvers once so that each shot was single-action without cocking, but they were used long ago by marksman when the natives didn't like it up 'em. Not relevant today.

Get training because waving a gun around in fear isn't going to help you.

I prefer a Wakasashi myself. It's quieter, relies on gross-motor skills and I don't have to reload it.

Yes the sound is how you align the blade for a clean cut.

Thanks for the clarification .

I am good shot. I dont plan on waving a gun around, just to keep at home. If it comes out it will be for inspection or for shooting someone in my place .

Get good locks and bars on tactically dubious windows and don't shoot anyone is the better option.

That's probably what the Memphis jogger should have done.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

If they are in my place, they're getting shot.
I don't want to ever have to do that.

Having everything locked up is a no brainer. Of course. That won't protect me once they're inside. A gun will

Hmmm Imwould have thought you’d prefer a bolo then when wrapped up you can taunt them with ‘how do you like me now’ until the cops arrive.

For home defence I use a dog breaker stick and my 90 lb bulldog. I’ve spent about a year now training him for man work but he hurt his knee so I’ve stopped, that said with the right command he’ll charge you and take out your legs then slobber all over your face.

I miss my dog, Ziggy. He was a chow and a great  gaurd dog. I felt pretty safe with him around.

Yes if you’ve ever seen a bulldog with a full drool on you know there’s no coming back from that.

He’s a big boy from European stock,I had him imported from Poland and is much larger than the usual bulldog you see over here. He’s about 17 inches at the withers and about 44kg,but he’s a Covid dog some he got no scocializing with people as a pup which makes him standoffish. Not the typical bulldog so I decieded to train him for man work, been a long time since I’ve done that as most my previous dogs weren’t suitable for that, you just don’t train bullterriers or staffies for that sort of thing.’

Actually, DAOs are meant for professionals, not for noobies. Heavier trigger is preferable, when crap hits the propeller, adrenaline rushes to circulation and fine motoric disappears.

I don't quite follow, a heavy trigger and less thinking / fine motor dependence sounds ideal for inexperienced people under pressure?

With over 20 years experience I can tell you, adrenaline takes fine motor skills from everyone. Too light triggers have created lots of accidents, even fatal ones. That's why many service semiauto pistols are DAO. And DA revolver should always be used in service DA, not SA.
