Hmmm Imwould have thought you’d prefer a bolo then when wrapped up you can taunt them with ‘how do you like me now’ until the cops arrive.

For home defence I use a dog breaker stick and my 90 lb bulldog. I’ve spent about a year now training him for man work but he hurt his knee so I’ve stopped, that said with the right command he’ll charge you and take out your legs then slobber all over your face.

Sounds like my ex but it wasn't the face.  But THAT is a long story.

I'm thinking about going with the 92f soon.  I like the feel of them.  Reminds me of my Hi Power back in the day.

I have one with Crimson Trace grips, and Wilson Combat mods. Shoots great, action is smooth, a lot of my friends complain the grips are too big.

@gg: you might look at the Rock Island Armory wheel gun. The M206 is a SA/DA revolver and very affordable.

we're pretty limited in California. We can only carry pepper spray, stun guns, maybe non-folding knives, etc

You're pretty limited in your county. That's not the case for all of California. In my county, CCW permit is relatively easy to get. I got one, wife got it and most of my friends too. Not a big deal.

Same with the knives. Depends on municipality. My county does not have extra knife laws, so the state law applies which is pretty permissive. No blade length limits for fixed or folding blades. Fixed blades must be carried openly, folding knives can be carried openly or concealed.
Some knives are banned though such as: Ballistic knives, Belt buckle knives, Pen knives, Cane swords or knives, Switchblades/balisongs with blades longer than 2 inches and OTF/Out the front knives with blades longer than 2 inches.
Also, on school grounds and college campuses, you are restricted to knives under 2.5 in.

As you see on bellow image, if you need CCW permit, you need to move in "Shall Issue" county.

Therein lies the issue--"What my county(state) ALLOWS" They are assuming rights they don't have. If I'm in a non-carry area, and I get in trouble for same, THAT will be the least of my worries

(Image removed from quote.)

I think the whole state will or is now a "shall issue" state - due to the Supreme Court ruling. I'm sure they will try to restrict as much as they can in the 'blue' areas, but thank God for that decision.

Thanks for the information. I was aware that other counties had better laws, but not to that extent.

you know, I'd forgotten all about the new laws. I might just go ahead and jump through the hoops and get my CC permit.

be careful where you get your permit, there's a company out of Arizona that will issue you a permit that is worthless here. also be careful once you get it where you take it.  lots of places don't allow them including restaurants or bars.

Well I would get a legal permit of course. And I would research where the gun is not allowed but mostly I would just keep it in my car.

It doe in Arizona there is no requirement for a permit to conceal or open carry. I mean somebody would have to be a real idiot to get a fake permit and carry a gun around.

you know, I'd forgotten all about the new laws. I might just go ahead and jump through the hoops and get my CC permit.

Go to https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/index.php
There's tons of information.
For CCW, there are county specific subforums: https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=116

Anyways, it's pointless to apply for CCW permit if you don't have a gun. In most counties, gun/s you are allowed to carry is/are listed on CCW.

I'd suggest get yourself a (required for firearms purchase) Firearms Safety Certificate. It's a short test you can do in most gun stores and it cost $25 and is valid for 5 years.

Once in possession of valid FSC, buy a firearm. Handguns you wish to purchase must be listed on California Handgun Roster. You can only buy 1 handgun every 30 days.

When you're buying a firearm you'll have to fill federal form 4473, and pay DROS (Dealer Record of Sale) fee. Not sure how much is now, but last time I purchased a firearm it was $19.

You'll need a valid unexpired California driving license (REAL ID).
There's 10 day waiting period, but DOJ often fools around and it gets delayed. But never more than 30 days. The DROS status can come back OK, rejected, denied or undetermined.
If undetermined, it's up to dealer to sell or not.
Therefore is important to ask before purchase if they deliver on undetermined.
Also, buy yourself a lockable container (for transporting the handgun).

That's it. Go to gun range and make yourself familiar with the gun.

Then you apply for CCW permit.

Bighorn, thank you for all the information.

Back when the guy tried to get into my room, I did try to go buy a gun. I studied for the firearm safety certificate and planned on taking that at the time of purchase.

I drove to a local gun store after they never answered - just on hold and no one ever came on the phone. I'd tried calling for a couple days, plus other stores. I drove to one and there was a two huge lines. One line out the door to the right and the other out the door and to the left.

I asked what the lines were for. One was to get in and look  and the other was to pick up their guns. So I just left.

That was during covid and maybe it's different now.

Then I thought I could just buy one in Arizona when I went for a visit, but read that you can't do that and bring it into the state.

I'll get something eventually. I'll check local shops in a day or two to see how busy they are and if they require an appointment.

As far as shooting guns - I've done that off and on since I was a kid. Shotguns, rifles and semi-auto handguns. I'm a pretty good shot and I know how to shoot. Not proficiently like a cop or someone who trains. but more than good enough to shoot someone 10 feet away if needed.  I know stress in that situation plays a big factor, but I'm pretty sure I could protect myself if needed.
