I lost half my shingles and most of the pool cage, other then that it could have been much worse. Never lost power though, although cell and internet just starting running again about 20 mins ago

Hope it doesn't chase even more home owners insurance companies out of the state...

State run Citizens insurance is crap and now insurers the majority...

Wonder if the NG can lay a pontoon bridge to Sanibel? You could be a rich man down there if you had a ferry

Video marked private

It was not the greatest of videos, just of my screen starting to go and shingles flying off my neighbors roof. All in all my neighborhood got lucky. Never lost power, just cellular communications. Even my dad’s townhouse in placida which took the eye came off reasonably unscathed. No flooding or surge damage, just some exterior damage. Which is amazing because the unit backs directly out onto a canal.

The flip side to this storm is that it feels like a late November this morning..fantastic!

You're not kidding.  The timing of that cold front could not have been better.  We're usually sweating our arses off for days after a hurricane.  I was told we're up to over 50% with power here in Polk.

We just got our power back at 6:10am this morning in Lithia, Fl. The weather the last couple days has been amazing but I'm glad to have my A/C back. I feel terrible for the Ft. Myers area. So sad to see the devastation. We were supposed to take the boat down to Cape Coral for spring break in a few months but I don't see that happening now. I can't imagine the area will be even remotely recovered by then.

Some quite surprising data in that link.

Wondering what Ft. Myers will look like when rebuilt vs. that data with the “equity” proposals. $248K median home value…what will it cost in a few years, time to buy?
They're casting their bait over there, see?

After Andrew in 1992, it became nearly impossible to buy homeowners insurance in the Miami area, so the idjit state government decided to assume the risk and sell the insurance. I forget who, but some smart governor realized what a taxpayer catastrophe it would be had yet another Andrew hit and squashed that practice

The government needs to get out the flood and crop insurance business, premiums would go up substantially but it would save the taxpayers a ton.
