Would it be a reasonable idea to delay publishing score and ranking until the end of the tour? It might induce more to "jump into the fray" with no consideration for how that might affect my rank.
Does score even make a difference now? It has been a while since I have met a player that actually strives to get a better score. I am noticing a lot of timid play as some (most) just want to accumulate more kills to see their name in lights. Dragging you in ack from 15k, not engaging bombers until their drones die flying low over CV groups. I have even seen GV'ers ditch when you get a bead on their position just to deny players of the kill message.

Some obviously think it's all about the score or k/d ratio. I think the name in lights and kill spam encourages this.

Maybe if they change it to top 500 people would be less likely to play that way because they could all have a "participation trophy"

Someday all the remaining players will be in the top 50...

Rank does literally nothing besides give you better CV rights over other players if you need it. I do think the higher your rank, the more perked planes/tanks should cost in the specific ranked category so that better players (per rank) dont over use perk planes as much.

I don't know If it's rank, or just naturalness since it is a strategy large map war game that players fly so timidly, or just the distance to fight. It's also the planes that allow them to get away with it. But if you are only trying for a good K/D, chances are you aren't going to be the best ranked. For me atleast, I don't like dying because I don't like to have to re-take off and fly out for 10 minutes every time when I don't have long to play, so I try to fly smart, but also get down n dirty and actually have fun with turning type mid war planes. This leaves me dying about 30-40% of the time depending on plane choice, but those deaths allow me to get a faster K/H which is beneficial. Having a high K/D with also a K/H, is one of the biggest challenges. Though you really need to land in order to get those nice points (points has always been my weakness due to time played).

But, I don't like the kill messenger for single kills. The landing 2 kills was fine enough. It just removes so much strategy from the environment. People knowing it's me after I shoot down their friendly will automatically tell everyone where I'm at and to avoid me or gang me or whatever, but they'll change their style knowing it's me and be more aggressive entering the fight. I still can't understand why it's fair for the other team to know where I'm positioned, but I don't know who they are if they aren't getting a kill in my area. They can set up against me, but I don't know who the other guy is. This just doesn't make it even in a sense.

I do imagine the name in lights is one thing. And it's fun to land and see your name show off for everyone to see your 6 kills or something. But the kill messages certainly adds to the ego of who shot down who and paints wrong perceptions of players and their positions. It always makes me cringe when outside players comment on someone shooting down some one else and bragging for that player even though they had no idea of the situation.

I agree. I must say one of the funnest fight I ever had when I engaged a tempest on the deck with a 262. I think he expected that would b&z him but I didn't. I dumped all my e and I think he was so shocked that he didn't react and I killed him lolz. I miss those fun fights.

Another time I was in a turny plane (forgot which one) I fought a spit and a KI84 on the deck and killed them both.

Another I was in a perk mossie being chased by two 262s. I climbed as high as I could and had them chase me all the way back the the 163 base. I was so low on fuel that I shut one engine down and they killed me as I tried to deadstick in. One of the 2 augered instead of flying the 4 sectors back to base. I upped a 163 and chased down the other 262 and killed him.

Another was when HW wa in a jug and got shot up and landed to get a ditch. I flew over him to make sure I had a good location to send out the storch to get him. He fired at me from the ground. I was like WTF? He said he thought I was gonna shoot him on the ground. I guess that's when I realized the game was changing as in the old days if the plane was down you didn't have to finish it off. (maybe that's just me though)

Good memories...

The scoring is too easy to game, I could be ranked 200 on day 29 and rank 1 on day 30 just by doing a goon capture, vehicle rocket attack, and ground capture on the last day.  As the highest ranking player in the game every month I play, im 100% in favor of things costing more for top rankers and lower rankers being rewarded more....though I already fly eny 40 planes so it doesnt hurt me at all.

While overall rank is pretty easy to game to some extent given you understand all the fundamentals of each category and have the time to pull it off. It is still a challenge and getting that #1 spot is a personal reward as it means absolutely nothing in the real world. I must say that fighter rank score does become much harder to achieve #1 rank in early/mid war planes only. It does prove that plane choice does infact make the game a good bit harder and challenging.

Fighter #1 is one of the gamier ones to achieve, extremely easy if you want it, on par with bomber.  Attack #1 is in my opinion the most impressive, followed by vehicle.

I always thought attack was the easiest and fighter was the hardest. Also people hide behind attack mode to protect the fighter rank. But achieving #1 in fighter in a temp/262 is a lot easier than doing it in a p40F, is all I'm saying. It can only be gamed to an extent because you still have to perform well in those categories and the more sorties you fly the more opportunities you have to lose that while also diluting your other stats but you still have to get a lot points to stay in the contest. Attack was always easy to game for me because you can do good in a couple of plane sorties and then use some tu2s to bomb a town giving you tons of attack bomber points. Since many use attack as a "fun" category to protect fighter rank, they cannot compete with someone gaming the attack rank.

“Name in lights” sure has reduced brags disguised as “salutes”.

Skyyr so wanted name in lights, he would salute a proxy kill of someone he wasn’t even aware was near.
