Plane not flying smoothly
« on: August 07, 2025, 11:41:16 AM »

Dear colleagues,

I'm having a very difficult time playing the game because the plane isn't flying smoothly. It moves in jerky, jerky motions, and it's impossible to aim properly at the enemy. Even a simple turn is abrupt. I don't know if the attached video can detect the cause of this behavior. The PC is relatively new and meets the minimum requirements. I have all the video settings and options set to minimum. I've followed most of the tips in this forum. The joystick is new. The monitor is old. The connection seems stable. I hope this video can help me find the cause. I will send all the required information.

Thank you!

What is you frame rate when this is happening? Is it possible that you have the integrated graphics selected rather then the dedicated GPU? Jerky movement sounds like a frame rate problem.

I only watched the first film, to me it looks like your jerking the stick around too hard. A few of the passes on the guns were nice and smooth, but when you went in on the P39 you almost spun it on the deck over controlling the plane.

Id suggest you add some dead band, or move the sliders around to ease the inputs and smooth out your flying.

Animl has a good page for adjusting your stick https://animl-aw.com/stick-setup/

That's good advice if you frame rates are good. I'm unable to watch films on this computer so I was just guessing what it might be.

When you first open the game, after you sign in, the next screen, click on "video settings" on the first box it will say which video card its using.

After watching the second film I still say its you over controlling. Your smooth up until you try to line up your shot, your nose is bouncing all over the place and the stall buzzer is screaming.

You could try flying a P47 and see if you have the same bouncing. The FW is a twitchy plane and if your stick is too tight it will show the bouncing much more. The P47 is a big ol' girl and she wont bounce around as much. If you do see smoother flying in the P47 then Id say for sure its your stick settings.

Now, saying all that I dont know if I would see a bad connection (warp) or studders due to running out or computer resources on a film.

On the opening screen (Main Menu), go to "Video Settings".

To increase/decrease detail go to "Graphic Detail".

As mentioned, if you have good FPS, like say 50fps. You may want to consider on not heavy handling the stick.

I will note, Dead Bands and sometimes Damping can affect your aiming if your aim is near center stick. There is a undesirable transition that takes place that can be erratic in aiming. If you're aiming in a turn you will not have that. So if you decide to use them, use them as little as possible. These can be avoided by not heavy handling your stick. They are aids. It takes practice, but once the muscle memory stores you'll be fine. If you watch a real pilot fly AH, their hand movement is very subtle and smooth.

I have a new-ish VKB stick, I use zero dead bands or damping, and there is no transition, it's smooth from one side to the other. The only thing I do is scale down rudder to about 40% of slider travel. Scaling can have the same effect, it's constantly making a transition. SO it's best they are straight across and even. If you do use scaling and have a slope, it needs a smooth travel to the highest, so nothing radical. Damping can cause you to over-steer as it catches up with movements

You can use these things as aids, but if you do, your muscle memory will be that. You'll have to rebuild it if radical changes are made.
