Interesting. I use VR as well, and here's how I set my centers for head movement:
- Put my head where I want my neutral spot to be.
- Hit ctrl-F4. Generally only need to do this once.
- move my head toward where I want the new center to be relative to the current center, hit F10. It sometimes doesn't move it far enough, don't exactly understand why, so I hit it as many times as necessary.
So if I want my head to sit higher in the cockpit, I hit ctrl-F4, then lift my head higher and hit F10. My head jumps up. THen I relax to the neutral spot I set when I hit ctrl-F4 and see if my view's where I want it. Adjust again as necessary.
This also works holding a view button. So you can hold any of the view button combos and move your head and hit F10 to move the center position in that direction as well. When a view button is being pressed, moving your head like this is all relative to the direction you're pointing. So if you're looking straight up with the 5 key, to move your head to the front of the plane, you need to lower your head, not move it forward.
