There are areas where compromise is possible, and sometimes even desirable.

But there are also belief systems, and desires, that are simply incompatible, as they are diametrically opposed.

There is also the truth, factual and objective, and there is everything else. Somewhere someone came up with this bizarre "your truth" concept.

The polarization we see is the result of absolute incompatibility of some beliefs, principles, and ideals.

GO back to the basics, "Do unto others what  you would have them do unto you", "What is good for the Goose, is good for the Gander:. take your pick, these were learned in Sunday School and in Kindergarden. :rock

Yeah, except some can't "live and let live". In fact, they force you to embrace and fund their behavior. And they will attempt to do you serious harm if you refuse to acquiesce.

This turned into a rather interesting thread. Does that mean it's going to get locked?

The polarization we see is the result of absolute incompatibility of some beliefs, principles, and ideals.

That's such an interesting statement when I thought we all had "the right" to believe what we want; define principles and ideals as we see fit; without concern or fear of being maligned by others with an opposing position. Kinda like the way I was taught to "mind my own business"

The groups that are all about love and tolerance will apparently physically kill you because they dont agree with you

The ones that block streets, burn buildings, jump on vehicles, and assault people?

No one said you didn't.

However, once you decide to force those upon others, by using the government to force them to embrace your ways, and financially support them, things change.

Some beliefs are diametrically opposed, and completely incompatible.

Without going too deep into "politics", although this thread will almost certainly get locked, there are certain ideals, beliefs, and principles which are enumerated and enshrined in the Founding Documents. There is a group that opposes those ideals, beliefs, and principles, and fully intends to eliminate them. They are willing to resort to violence in order to do so.

If you do not agree with those ideals, beliefs, and principles upon which the nation is founded, there are literally dozens of nations where they are not the fundamental basis for the nation. People should go where the system they desire exists.

I count myself extremely blessed to have been born here, in this Republic, and I believe strongly in the Founding Documents, as written, in the context of the time period when they were written, in accordance with the other writings of them men who wrote them, signed them, and offered their very lives and treasure to create the Republic. They say exactly what they mean, they mean exactly what they say.

Sorry Virg, I see nothing in your claims that is anything but selective interpretation of the founding documents.

Sorry Virg, I see nothing in your claims that is anything but selective interpretation of the founding documents.

There's literally nothing selective about it. I read them, and interpret them, using the definitions of the words in place at the time they were written, and in the context of the writings of the men who wrote them. Conservative, contextualist, and constructionalist. The men who wrote them, actually wrote, at the time, that those documents were to be strictly and narrowly interpreted in accordance with the definitions of the words when the documents were written, and in the context of the hundreds, if not thousands of articles, books, and letters written by the men who wrote and signed the documents. They're really clear about what they mean, if you read them in that manner.

As an aside, I see no reason to have any anger or hatred toward you because you disagree. I see no need to disparage you personally.

I am, however, unyielding in my support for the documents exactly as they were written, with the definitions and context of the time in which they were written.

And yet you say this "But there are also belief systems, and desires, that are simply incompatible".

Those very documents guarantee that no "beliefs or desires" are incompatible.... even though they may be distasteful to you.

Which do you prefer?

No, those documents say no such thing. That's what you WANT them to say.

There a lot of beliefs and desires which are strictly prohibited.

You can choose to "believe" what you wish....you can even "believe" that I "desire" to think that you are full of **** ! All because some smart old men guaranteed personal freedoms.
