AI will be around no doubt, my guess it will be Chinese AI

That would be very unfortunate for America.

That would be like deciding to just stay an low income agricultural civilization rather than join the Industrial Revolution.

You'll regret it when your competitors come back with tanks and all you have is a pitch-fork.

Toxic, psychotic, self-aggrandizing drama queens simply aren't worth me spending my time on.

You can honestly see it turn out any other way?

After a good financial/economic collapse and boom..

Western country companies are in it for monetary profit ultimately. China is in it for total dominance. Many, including me, believe Reagan drove the Soviet Union to over spend on defense in an effort to keep up which resulted in its demise. Hmmmmmmm.

We didn't have households filled with everything from the USSR did we then?

Yeah.  We are energy rich.

We still have the best schools.  There is a reason the Chinese want to send their students here.  And not ALL of them are spies.

Our GDP is still significantly larger than theirs.

In any economic collapse, they will collapse first and we will recover faster.

If we lose the AI race, it is because we got stupid and just let them win.  It's ours to lose.

Succeed in beating us to a Super AI. That will be bad. For us.

Still find the entire discussion to be laughable. An alleged intelligence that in some way becomes brighter than the team of people who built it? And even if that's possible, some human is going to hit the start switch and give this thing some form of control? And all this in a so-called advanced society where kids can't do basic arithmetic (let alone advanced calculus)?
Screw the Chinese - God help us :bolt:

We build machines that are stronger and faster than us. We build machines that can perform complex calculations and solve various problems many times faster than us. Why can't we build machines that will improve themselves, making them smarter than us? Foolish to think we can't.

I didn't say I want China to get AI before us, I  just stated if it now requires the greenies to eat crow and expand our power grid to handle it, it will be much easier for China to obtain the power as the don't have to give a political crap, just build it out..

And I see a conflict of a last resort brewing up with China over this if AI is the super weapon some say it is because of this advantage that they clearly have..

I believe we've been attacked three times in the last couple of months. AWS, Azure, and Cloudflare. They were portrayed as internal failures but I don't buy it. This is the immediate threat AI poses. We've seen the impact of limited failures in our Internet recently and over the years. Imagine now that it all just stops. Indefinitely.

An AI needn't orchestrate a massive overt DDOS attack to bring us to our knees. It could/can study everything connected to the Internet, find weaknesses, points of failure, and make subtle changes bringing everything to a halt. Exactly what has happened recently.

And forget the killer robots hunting us down. That makes for fun movies but a sufficiently advanced AI could kill most of us without ever lifting a titanium digit.

There's probably been sci-fi written at some point when in our distant past an advanced civilization was destroyed by an AI they created leaving only a remnant of humanity. This remnant swore off all technology returning to the caves. Until they forgot.
