Most products are available in sufficient quantities from domestic production. So tariffs are not necessarily a defacto tax. That's a typical Roberts copout.
Funny, there are massive tariffs and embargoes against U.S. produced products world wide. You never hear people complain about that. But if the U.S. reciprocates, that's a major offense, especially if a republican does it, and God forbid Trump, because according to the media and the democrats, anything he does is evil.
