Microsoft Windows Must Have Set The Standard

My daughter over Thanksgiving noticed one of my burners was getting super hot and it wouldn't lower the temperature when turned down. So, I looked up the problem on YouTube. Apparently, it's common and so is the fix. Turn the power off to the range, keep it off for 2 minutes, and then turn it back on. It's fixed!

That was the standard already before Windows. Power cycling has been the go-to fix for every electric device that features more than one component inside.

A solid reminder, though, that even simple devices like burners may suffer from issues that are utterly easy to fix!  :aok

This can work for a vehicle too. With all the sensors and electronics today. Many folks think they have an issue when they get a check engine light. Sometimes it is just a sensor acting quirky. It is important to read the code to make sure it is not multiple failures or an extreme safety issue. If not and it will not clear, disconnect negative battery lead or leads for about 10 minutes. Then reconnect and start vehicle.

Just the other day I moved the base station to our cordless phones. We lost caller ID right after and I checked settings and called Spectrum and all looked good on their end to the point they wanted a tech to visit which I thought was way overboard. I finally did a power cycle on it and caller ID came back working.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

Me too, for over 30 years now. Truth is that rebooting does solve a lot of problems. Of course they will recur.

I had a customer complaining about random reboots every day.

Went through the usual suspects and found nothing.   

I was on the phone with her and she suddenly said "oh.....never mind"   and said the tip of her shoe was hitting the reset button.
