Goon driving is getting pretty darn boring.

Picture this 30+ people attacking a field, it's closed and someone says "who wants to fly a goon".. maybe and just maybe you'll get 1 or 2 people saying, "sigh, I will".

Earlier today I flew a goon, it was a long distance and took about 20 mins. I arrive at the field and the ack just popped up, then a spit comes down and kills me... frustration to the extreme.

Wouldn't it be best to have AI to fly goons as an option?

Naaa, I love buss drivn'    What needs to happen is the goon has to be involved in the base capture plan from the begining.  You can't have a group of fighters say, "OK, it's closed, who wants to bring troops?"  What they are after here is makeing base closure and capture require a team effort.  I hope we can get trucks or 1/2 tracks (maybe that german track) so we can sneak 'em in.

What needs to happen is the goon driver needs to get credit.  The system message should read:

"Joe Blow has captured field 23 for the knights!"

Yeah, everyone else fighters, bombers, all contributed but the gooney had to fly there in a slow, undefended bus.  And the field don't get got until he drops his load.  For every goon that makes it 5 get slaughtered.  Its a small reward fortheir sacrifice.  Everyone else gets kills and such.  They need some recognition too.

Hi all

Yeah, I enjoy it especially when it goes smoothly!  Other times you get to the airfield and the CAP has gone and the ack had just popped back up... oh well, nevermind he says.

Only last night I had probably the best fun I've had in ages when I had a B17 close in on me and eventually to around 0.4k and there we were low level dogfighting (or rather me turning, running, turning, running away etc.!)!  I managed to escape after a couple of minutes (Spit in area too) and the 17 may have crashed (?)... then up against the Spit... run, run... ditch, captured.

So it can be fun, and besides you can cut the grass too

Ha Ha, was your incident when you took a Goony to a29?  Nothing was down at that field at the time and I was trying to take the hangars out.  I don't know who requested a goony there, but it definitely wasn't needed at that time - everything was still alive with cons up.

Regards all

Good idea AKWabbit, like it.

Bad thing is that many things in a troop dropping were changed without notice in a readme file, (or it is me who did not paid attention?) I made 2 bad drops, becase:
a) droped lower than 500ft, and they died. Did not knew it was implemented in a new version.
b) droped from the goon which landed but was still moving. Also was not documented.

Due to this I lost 30+ minutes of the game time, and that was frustrating. Also due to this 2 fields ware not captured. Again, may be I just did not paid attention, and somewhere that changes were documented. But if not it is not good, probably changes which can affect gameplay shall be reflected in the readme file which came with new versions and patches.

You said it wabbit!!!!!!!!!!

Too many times you die for no credit when you succeed. If IRC we USED to know who captured the field but no longer do.

You get credit on score for capture, however I'd prefer just country getting credit in text buffer, since it takes more than the goon driver to capture it.

HaHa:Squadrons is an alternative, I never have a problem finding a goon driver within a squad.

There seems to be two types of field captures.  One of them involves a large group of planes that continually bomb a field until they can convince someone to bring in a C47.  The other consists of a group that actually COORDINATES the C47 arrival with their attack.

I've been part of several base captures where the only way the ack could have come back up on the 47 is if the respawn time was less than 2 minutes.  People go out of their way to get enough people to Bomb/attack a base, yet they seldomely take the time to plan the c47 arrival.  How many times have you heard "F1 is down.. we need someone to bring a 47!"?

I also know that flying a 47 is quite exciting.  NOE flight combined with lack of any way to defend yourself makes for a new level of awareness.

Fully agree Wabbit, wmutt I Always fly Goons given a chance but 9 times out of 10 people spend hours killing a field and then call for the goon as an after thought. By the time you get there everyones buggered off to the next field and all that waiting for you is M16's & fighters   I always ask if a goon is needed anywhere before jumping into a fighter and usually get no response then suddenly someone says "GOON NEEDED NOW" Tell us earlier guys. You've spent all this time getting the field ready for us. It takes time to get to the drop site in a goon, Usually a straight line is not the fastest route and you have to "Thread the Needle" though the fighter's to avoid being seen. It would make far more sense if you were all still there to provide cover.

DejaVu please tell this magic secret to coordinate C-47's.

I announce 15 minutes before I bomb a field that I will need a C-47, repeat over and over, and usually get ignored.  Stopped flying bombers, why bother?

DejaVu please tell this magic secret to coordinate C-47's.

Its simple.  I ask for C47 support before I go bombing.  I make sure a bomber is going to a base before I launch a C47.  It works quite well.  As a rule, it also works better if things are done on private coms as opposed to open country channel.  Coordinate things before anyone launches.  That way, you avoid those "pointless" bomber missions.
